Stupid Question Time

If viewed from above most ships have a section near the center elevators that sticks out beyond most other cabins. People (us included) like it because it is centrally located near the stairs and elevators so it's a quick trip up or down to pool, promenade, etc. Also the view is slightly better as you can see a little more aft and forward. Also on some ships some hump cabins have larger balcony's. They sell out early as many cruisers prefer them. They are "coveted" :)

Some ships have an outward bump around the middle, which is what people call the hump. The cabins and balconies are roughly the same size as normal, but because they stick out you can get better forward /aft views from them. They're also generally near the lifts, so are a convenient location too.

Never "humped" on a cruise (well, never had a hump cabin), but we did Liberty OTS this past June and had a forward balcony cabin that was larger than most balcony cabins. If you look at the deck charts some of the cabins look a bit larger than others, and from my experience, size does make a difference!:D

What balcony cabin # was this? Thanks in advance!

1236. If you look at the deck plans, Cabins 1230, 1232, 4, 6, 8 1240 & cabins 1530, 32, 34 all are larger than standard balconies. I was concerned about being so far forward - never noticed any difference from being our usual mid-ship.

The part about the balconies will vary from ship to ship. On the Oasis class, the hump cabins have larger balconies. For example, the D1 and D2 balconies on the hump are about 80 square feet compared to 53 sq. ft. for the non-hump "D's", so they're a little over 50% bigger if you're "humping"...

Only Radiance class and Oasis class have balconies that are larger because of the "hump"...Voyager/Freedom class hump balconies are the same size as any other side balcony.

While the deck plans are not "to scale", they are fairly indicative of what you'll get, size-wise.

We love the hump cabins! It's so nice to have that extra space on the balcony without additional charge. Was happy to find one available when we just booked the Jewel of the Seas yesterday for our January cruise.
