Jewel - Washy Washy

We just got off our first NCL cruise.

I have read and heard about Washy Washy before, but finally got to see it.

Do they do this on every ship, or just the Jewel? The washy washy dude was very good, and a hit with all the passengers. He really seems to enjoy what he does, and breaths sunshine into everyone who comes in contact with him

Well done Mr. Washy Washy, well done!!!

Yes, they do the "Washy-washy" on every NCL ship, but the "entertainment" value of it varies a lot - depending on the personality to the person "in charge" of the spray... Some of them are born entertainers and do the most of it (got to love those :) ), and some of them have a more timid personality and are therefore more "quiet" when they spray your hands....

Washy Washy guy on Jewel was a real winner and topped the one we had on Breakaway. I walked by each day just to hear him sing! He is a true entertainer especially when his assistant was there playing guitar along with him singing. My favorite was when he sang " BBQ by the pool " to the tune of the Beatles Yellow Submarine all while spraying each passengers hands!

To bad the alcohol based washy stuff doesn't work and gives a false sense of cleanliness. People need to wash with soap and water and not rely on this gimmick.

Its anti-bacterial, so yes it does do a function. However, Norwalk is a VIRUS and therefore washing with soap and water is the practice one should use to alleviate that possiblity. The entertainment value of the washy washy people is a fun thing and no need to knock it.

I have noticed the washy washy guys are more active on Jewel-class ships than on the bigger ships like the Breakaway. I would always say washy washy when I enter the buffet and the worker who sprays the anti-bacteria would just spray and say nothing or says "washy washy" very softly.

Nice comment - but after the years it is now getting a bit boring but does remind you all the time. It does serve a function but limited as some people do not and some put it on just one hand. I suggest that if you checked there would be all sorts of nasties but thats life!

The problem as you accurately stated is that an anti bacterial does not kill a virus and it's noro virus the ships want to eliminate. How many people think they don't need to wash their hands because they'll get this washy washy.

I got off the Dawn on the 28th and what disgusts me is seeing the people that come into the restaurant WITHOUT doing either the washy washy or the containers at the entrances .. just completely amazing! But I guess thats cruise life.. gotta take the bad with the good and stay away from the bad!!

There are always passengers who will just blow past the sanitizes some even say "no thank you" Most claim it damages their skin, who knows. I just make sure I don't sit at the same table and try to avoid them at the buffet. They should feel embarrassed but it's just a way of life with those folks, they obviously do not get it. Even if a person washes their hands prior with soap and water a little extra protection can't help. Hope their children learn better manners in school.

You're right, it can't help and many people are allergic to this washy washy. When I wash before eating I don't care to be contaminated with the nozzle or handle of the washy stuff because I KNOW I did a good job of washing and have no need to ruin it with a an alcohol based drying agent.

Well I always say "No thank you" to the washy washy folks. Not because I'm dirty, unsanitary or have no manners. I wash my hands with anti-bacterial soap after every restroom visit and before entering the dining rooms. I even carry my own soap! I have two reasons for passing them by. #1. I am allergic to the alcohol in the hand sanitizers and not real keen on eating with soap dried on my hands. And #2...I have asthma and the alcohol and scents in them always triggers my asthma. So yes I will continue to say "No thank you" and pass them by. And no I do NOT feel embarrassed about it at all. I do have manners and will make sure that should we ever cruise on the same ships to avoid sitting at or near your table so that you won't be contaminated by me and my clean hands.

I always have my own antibacterial wipes and gels so using the ones provided on the ships isn't necessary. If you go to the buffet, you should wash with soap and water before and after getting your plate before you eat anything. This is just travel common sense regardless of the norovirus. I don't even want to catch the common cold while on vacation if I can help it.

What is really disgusting is the amount of NCL staff members, casino, photographers and yes even beverage staff not washing their hands after using the bathroom. I am always irritated when they don't even care that a guest is present.

Sorry - you are irritated but you book cruises with NCL why go to get irritated:rolleyes:
