OBC in Casino?

We have significant amount of OBC on our next cruise. I just want to make sure my understanding on this is correct:

This OBC CAN be used in the casino:

OBC from TA's

OBC from Shareholder's benefit

OBC from Future Cruise Certificates

But OBC from HAL as part of the booking promo cannot.

Correct?

Thanks!

Wrong.

Per the shareholder credit document:

This benefit is available to shareholders holding a minimum of 100 shares of Carnival Corporation or Carnival plc. Employees, travel agents cruising at travel agent rates, tour

conductors or anyone cruising on a reduced-rate or complimentary basis are excluded from this offer. This benefit is not transferable, cannot be exchanged for cash and, cannot be

used for casino credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account. Only one onboard credit per shareholder-occupied stateroom.

Also, I looked at my Future Cruise Deposit Confirmation and the only thing it says about shipboard credit is that it is not redeemable for cash.

Now, having pointed out the correct information, I do need to qualify this and say that some people have reported using these OBCs in casino and HAL not catching it.

Thank you. I see that now on the shareholder's agreement, and I appreciate you pointing it out. We have been able to use some OBC in the casinos on Princess and Carnival, but it can be confusing to figure out exactly what can and what cannot be used (and of course, ultimately cashed out).

It is confusing, especially when you have OBC from multiple sources - stockholder, FCD, booking promotions, TA, etc. I do not see how HAL can keep up with it either, as they all seem to be "lumped in" together on your onboard statement.

I just charge to my on board account at the slots in the casino and I have never had a problem. usually I have a combo of FCD, CCL, TA and sometimes HAL obc.

There is no fee to charge to your on board account at the slots and you can cash out later (a few days later to not be too obvious unless you hit it big) and I've never had a problem.

I read a couple days ago that there is a 2.5 per cent service charge for casino charges billed to your account. I've never paid that much attention in the past. I've just signed a chit at the Black Jack table and stayed fat, dumb, and happy. I'll pay a little more attention in January to confirm. They've never charged me to cash a check at the front desk, however.

I have charged slot machine funds to my cabin account a number of times and never had to pay a fee of any kind. In fact, lately the machines encourage that you do so.

The service charge is only when you get money at the table games. The slot machine advances are free of any fees. Some people get the money at a slot machine, cash out and use it at the table games to avoid the service charge.

note - I did say at the slots. There will be charge at the Black Jack table I believe. As others have said, some use the slots to get cash for the tables.

When I charge cash in a slot machine on my card, I have never had an issue with using OBC, and as mentioned, with no service charge. The OBC is just a pot of money and they do not worry about where it came from until the end of the cruise IF you have a surplus of OBC. Then the make sure the HAL-provided OBC is 'spent' as cannot be refunded, the TA or pre-bought OBC can be refunded.

if you charge your slot play to your room card does that count towards your onboard spending for the extra day's credit towards Mariner point's?

I think so but ....

It's not supposed to count but......

quite sure it did on my last cruise when I did the math.

quite sure it didn't on my previous cruise when I did the math.

So, don't count on it, but there is a possiblity only.

last November - I think we may have had it count to. As I think I would have noticed otherwise. Only the little slot play I did and the tournament's for the casino.

I was trying to get the charges up to the next day of credit. I didn't know until then that FCC didn't count so I think I would remember IF the slot play didn't. HUM need to go digging now  see if I can find that invoice.

Thanks

have a nice holiday

I know someone that played over $2k on the slots on my last cruise (not me). She didn't receive any Mariner points nor should she. If you have rec'd any I think you are lucky.

Did she put cash in the machine or charge it to her cabin?

WOW! that's a LOT of $$$.

It seemed to have worked twice when I charged to my onboard account but I don't charge much to my onboard account. I only do it when I have a lot and want some cash after ;) The rest of my spending is by cash fed in so I don't go "over budget".

With the current exchange rate, I fear it may put the kibosh into my bit of fun at the slots. I consider it entertainment and although I won once, I have lost that big win over time ;)

I believe she charged most if not all to the room. I got the story second had from someone that was footing the bill. I was only in the casino a couple times with her but I didn't see her put money in the slots. I think she has a bit of a problem to say the least. I'm glad I don't have that issue. These folks are Americans so no exchange issues.

Yep that sounds to me like SHE has a problem - feel sorry for the person who had to pony up for her losses.

I play maybe 20.00 at a time a couple days a week when cruising on the room card. And, I cash out - IF I win something to double it. I'm just not much of a gambler.

My DH doesn't put it on the room charge - he limit's himself to so much a day if not winning. Only takes so much into the casino with him and if that is gone it's gone. Has to make the long walk back to the cabin and to the front desk before he can play more. Time to think and regroup.

Thought the FCC was charged directly to your credit card - or am I mis-remembering??

however, I didn't realize that until last November as up until the end we had been stupid and not done FCC while on board.

And, I thought IF I did some of them it would go towards our onboard spending. It did not but directly to our cc as you mentioned.
