Has anyone used the vacation guarentee for a rude neighbor?

Loud and obnoxious, smoking, slamming balconies doors, fighting and or any other thing.

Just curious. I can not tolerate smoke, and if they are smoking near me, I will get sick plain and simple and will end up in the hospital. This is my first cruise and did not even think about inconsiderate people who break rules. I booked the cruise knowing there was no smoking on the balcony. So has anyone used it for those reasons? And how was the out come?

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone using the vacation guarantee due to a smoking neighbor, but it's a good question.

It would certainly upset me to be in a cabin next to a smoker.

I detest cigarette smoke and it gives me a migraine.

Last year on the Magic we could smell cig smoke coming thru our air vents. We called guest services and they said they would check on it. After about 30 min the smell went away. Not sure where the smell was coming from. But it was disturbing and our cabin smelled like cig smoke for quite awhile.

Ugh!

We have often been on the balcony and smelled cig smoke .

Is this a noted event or a hypothetical?

I don't know, but it would be kind of understandable if the neighbor was bad enough.

I'm pretty easy going, but the one thing that really can piss me off is inconsiderately loud people, especially at night.

I've been on several Carnival cruises and never had much of a problem with this, but if I did, I'd probably first call guest services and see if there is anything they can do about the situation.

It'd be pretty extreme to call it quits and go home. And if someone did invoke vacation guarantee due to horrible neighbors, it seems like Carnival ought to just kick off the people causing the problem. (Assuming it could be proved what they were doing.)

hypothetical I am just getting real nervous on going at one point I was ready to cancel after reading all of the people who just don't care and smoke anyways. To most its just gross, to me it could be life threatening. I don't want to not go. But I don't care to be in a hospital in a 3rd world country either, (no offense to anyone reading this). My PVP assured me that there would be nobody smoking, but after reading this forum it scares the hell out of me.

I will tell you that I have smelled pot smoke more than a few times coming from cabins. It was very obvious too. We could pinpoint exactly which cabin ppl were smoking pot in. This has happened to us on more than one cruise.

Most recently on the Triumph last yr.

Be sure to find out which side of the ship has the smoking areas, so that you can be sure to avoid walking thru there. I believe that there is an area on the Port (left) side on the Lido deck. I'm not positive because I do not smoke, but someone can chime in to let you know for sure. Have a great cruise.

Op the odds are slim to none this will happen to you. I've been on a dozen cruises and the that's the last thing I think about before leave. This is your 1st cruise. Don't sweat it. Enjoy your days planning for the cruise. And most of all enjoy the cruise. You'll be just fine.

OP - If smoke really bothers you, don't go to the casino. The smoke permeates the casino. Even if you play the slots, they put the Smoking and No Smoking slots very close together (one side of the bank might be for smokers and the other side for non smokers). People are supposed to be at a machine/table to smoke, but people will stand around and smoke and the casino workers don't do anything.

No. I'd try to resolve the issue before I gave up on my vacation.

We had a problem with noisy unattended kids in adjacent stateroom one time. We just got frustrated & ugly about it, but did nothing. I should have called purser's desk or security.

We had pot smokers nearby on one cruise. Called purser's desk, security came, no more problem.

We had a balcony neighbor who left their outside light on all the time so we couldn't sit on ours and enjoy watching the ocean & stars. Gave $20 to our stateroom attendant to turn their light off when he serviced the room each evening. Problem solved. (Until they got back late evening, but we'd just call it a night then.)

It's happened to me, and I can assure you, Carnival, and it's employees have a policy of not helping out, or enforcing their rules. One, of several reasons why I will not step foot on a Carnival ship again! However, I enjoy sharing my experiences, and encourage you if you can, to find a cruise line that cares.

Port (left) side on Lido is nonsmoking, starboard on Lido is not.

OP be sure to check the deck plans for your ship. There are some slight differences from ship to ship but are clearly marked.

As posted above, forget the casino and if you are as sensitive as you report you might want to avoid the fun shops too as they are located on the same deck. Also if your ship has a sea side bar-b-que check you stateroom location.

In the last four years we have sailed 9 times with a balcony. Only twice have we smelled something and both times it was something illegal. We did call security the last time this occurred and didn't smell it again.

If your reaction to people smoking is so severe you will be hospitalized, you may not enjoy a cruise.

I don't like people smoking near me. And I go out of the way to avoid it on cruises- but there are times that you have to walk by smoking areas to get to another area.

I would study deck plans carefully so you know when to go upstairs to walk across an area to avoid something.

And you just never know when the wind will change direction on the Lido deck and blow some smoke your way. Most people just get up and move, but most people aren't saying they will end up in the hospital being near smoking.

Smoking on a cruise is like smoking in real life on land.

You can't do it everywhere, but there are times where you will stumble

into it.

Or it finds you.

If you wander in the lido smoking area, do what I do, cough,

cover your face, look around for the one smoker, realize you have wandered

into the smokers only outside area and move along.

(The last sentence was for humor only)

If being in a closed environment with 4000 other people from different cultures and backgrounds is a problem, cruising is not for you.

You can't count on your neighbor following all the rules or being mindful of people around them. If this is upsetting to you, cancel now or you will be disappointed.

Maybe a cruise is not a good vacation option for the OP if they are already thinking about cashing in the vacation guarantee even before they have gone on the cruise. I am not saying that that is their intention, but if I had a condition that would put me in the hospital, I probably would not have booked the cruise in the first place. On this past cruise I had to go onto the deck that had the casino a number of times for a few different things. Since the smoke does not know better than to stay within the confines of the casino, it could make it's way to other areas and hallways on that deck such as the coffee shop, Spectacular Lounge, Morocco Lounge, etc. If smoke is that much of an issue, it could really infringe upon the enjoyment of the cruise and accessing all of the available amenities on that Deck.

Why anyone would consider cancelling a cruise because of something they read on Cruise Critic is beyond me. You do realize the number of people who post on CC is small compared to the number of people who cruise, right?

You are so right.

You don't even know if the poster has ever stepped foot on a Carnival ship.

A few years ago one the most vocal critics and heavy posters admitted thay had not cruised with Carnival for over 5 years. But they had an negative opinion about everything
