Celebrity right for late 20s early 30s?

Hello everyone. DH and I are thinking about booking a 10 nights Caribbean cruise on the Equinox. We have never cruised on Celebrity. I'm 28 and DH is 31. A lot of people are telling me that Celebrity is geared towards middle aged to older people. Just wondering what your thoughts are?

We are not party animals (with 2 kiddos at home, our idea of fun is Netflix and beer on the couch!) I don't drink alcohol at all. So bars are not a big deal for me. What is the entertainment like? We like shows, movies, games or trivia nights, pools/hot tubs of course. That kind of stuff.

When looking for searches, a lot of posts were from 2011 or earlier. I was just wondering what the entertainment recently was like. Celebrity had the best itinerary for us as far as dates and ports. That's why we chose it. But when people are constantly telling me we won't enjoy Celebrity, it made me want to ask you experienced cruisers.

Thanks for your opinions.

shows: Average (Vegas-like) with singers, comedians, jugglers, acrobatic act. Movies - relatively new movies available on in room tv. Games and trivia - various times day and night, you can fight all you want about the trivia answers with fellow pax. Various pools and Spa tubs - No pool games (maybe water polo) No sexy legs contests etc.

Fellow pax will not likely be beer drinking, sitting on the couch 28-31 year olds, but enjoy the cruise. It will be whatever you make of it. - You will never know until you try Celebrity.

Thanks for your reply! No sexy leg contest?!?!:D

We've only cruised one other time. That was with Disney. After running around all day with DD, snorkeling and swimming on excursions, by the time we finished dinner and the evening show, we went to bed! But this time around, it will just be DH and me. We'll be leaving our two kiddos to freeze their tails off back home ;)

We want to just relax and was hoping for some good planned activities on board. I imagine nights before getting to port, we'll be going to bed early. So just wanted to know what there was to do on ship days. Are there themed nights? On the Disney cruise, there was pirate night etc. Just wondering :)

Thanks again for your help!

If you are not looking for broadway shows, ice skating and surfing while on the ship, then I think you will be very happy with Celebrity. The ship is beautiful, well maintained, luxurious in some instances.

We'll be leaving the frozen north. No ice skating wanted here :p

The only other cruise we have been on was with Disney. And honestly, that ship was so darn nice. We were worried we'd be disappointed with some other cruise lines. So we thought Celebrity would be a nice choice since it's a nicer line. I'm getting pretty excited planning for formal nights :)

Celebrity is definately a wonderful place to cruise. You will find lots of late 20s-30s passengers on a Caribbean cruise and some of us older people can be fun too!

The stage shows are actually pretty good. As for a sexy legs or belly flop contest - wrong place. No pirate night either, but there are special events almost every night after dinner or some sort along with music that goes on long after we are asleep.

I note we took our kiddos (47 and 44) along with the grandkids (10, 12, 16, 17, 21) on Celebrity a couple years ago. Rarely saw any of them unless we walked by the pool, ping pong table, a shore excursion paid by Grandpa, or dinner. They even tolerated my traveling companion - Ignor and my sense of humor.

IMHO, It reads like Celebrity is the perfect cruise line for ya'll. More country club, less Six flags and none of the frat house:D

Very good MDR quality, and a wonderful selection of specialty venues. Entertainment is a 50/50 shot. We are not into song n dance shows, but like a good comedian and jazz singer with a backup set of strings and ivory!

Elegant features all around the ship, with even colors and no neon!

Whom ever said you would not like Celebrity, well, take it with a grain of salt!:D

We cruise Disney with the Kids and Find Celebrity as close as you can find to the Disney Experience when it comes to service, food quality, and overall demographic of passengers. You will typically find a higher income older demographic Mid to Late 40 average. We cruised on the Century as newlyweds back in 2002 when we were both in our very early 20's and continue to cruise celebrity. Now we are in our late 30's we enjoyed Disney with Kids but continue to cruise celebrity when it is a couples vacation. More laid back, quiter, more relaxing, but not so subdued I feel like I have entered a hospice.

There are theme nights, but usually only a few. Honestly, I have never been to one. Check the dailies that people post here to get an idea of what goes on. There is trivia, bingo, water volleyball with the staff, cooking intructions and shows.

I basically eat, sit by the pool, eat, sit by the pool, have a drink, sit at the Sunset Bar, take a nap in the room, get ready for dinner, drink at the martini bar before dinner, go to dinner, head to casino and maybe a show. They also put on shows in the lobby separate of the theater. There is a comedy show and another "adult" type show. There is plenty to do, but you do need to keep up with the dailies to know what is going on.

The entertainment is nothing like what you get on Disney though.

Is think a lot depends on what time of year you cruise. If you cruise during school vacations, there's going to be a lot of extended families - young 'uns to old 'uns.

My first impression of the Solstice Class ships was, "This is hip! I really think a younger crowd would appreciate the tech-savvy-ness (is that a word?) of Celebrity." You'd do well with Princess probably too but if you like a more modern vibe, go with Celebrity. ;) We're not into bars, being up on the latest wine or watching shows, but there's still plenty to do onboard.

I very much agree with DrivesLikeMario. We love the S class ships as do our son and daughter (23 and 25). In fact, my children jump at the chance to cruise with us on Celebrity, but pass on RCL, Carnival or NCL. Try it, you'll love it!

I love the sense of humor. Some of our best all inclusive vacations have been hanging around people in different age brackets. We never go on vacation to meet people but usually end up having some great stories of people the we met on vacation.

Celebrity is definitely trying to get your age group to cruise with them and are adding shows and activities. I guess it depends on the ship, but the Summit had plenty of activities you would enjoy. Tip if you have the drink plan everything will be fine. Haha

Good to hear.

As a 30 year old I have been looking to book my next cruise. Having been on RCL/P&O & even cunard (queen mary 2, was a wonderful ship, amazing even, but there was just 5 of us under 30 on the entire ship, still had a great time)

I was wondering what it would be like. I am single, but will be cruising with a friend around the same age.

I enjoy things like table tennis, broadway style shows, nice bars etc so it sounds like celebrity will be ok for me.

Welcome to Cruise Critic Viperau85. To the OP: you will enjoy Celebrity. Food is a notch above most major cruise lines. Entertainment varies, but there are still small music ensembles that are very good. The Martini Bar is full of great occasions for people watching and a whole lot of fun. The Sunset Bar is divine at that time of the day to ...you know what?, watch the sunset. Celebrity is laid back with opportunities to do, or not, things. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Book it!! I'm sure you will love it! I am 35 years old and have been cruising exclusively with Celebrity for the last 5 years. The food and service is amazing. Always tons of stuff to do (or not do). It's true that there usually isn't a ton of people our age on the ship, but that has never stopped us from having a great time.

My husband and I sailed on the celebrity solstice when we were (engaged) 25 and the equinox when we were (honeymoon) 27, and we are hooked on celebrity! We had a cruise booked for last year and had to cancel. We are trying to rebook for next year, we will be 29 :) (actual it is for our 30th birthdays but technically I will be 29 when the cruise leaves haha)!

I have 2 reviews, you can see them in my signature. I am still working on the 2nd which I promise to finish.

We are not big partiers, I have a few drinks and my husband does not drink. We prefer celebrity over any other cruise line. (I have been on both carnival and royal several times)

We really enjoy the hot glass show, that's our favorite form of entertainment on board. On our Equinox cruise we even became friends with hot glass artist!

If you have questions let me know!

I love Celebrity, I am 50. I enjoy it while cruising Europe, not so much in the Caribbean. The reason is that while in the Caribbean there is more time to enjoy the ship and you are not so exhausted from the all day excursions. I think that you would really enjoy RCCL or NCL. I haven't been on NCL in a while but I am hearing rave reviews from my friends who have gone on the new ships; very luxurious, great dining options and wonderful shows. We have been on RCCL many times and the entertainment is very good. You will get a broadway show, circus soleil type show, water show if you are on the Allure, Oasis or larger one, comedy, etc. etc. They do something very fun called the Quest which is like a scavenger hunt and very adult oriented. The discos are always full and if you like Latin music, Boleros is a lot of fun for dancing too! I am not a big fan of the food lately but it is easily remedied by making use of the specialty dining on board. I have never been on a bad cruise and I think that any cruise line you choose there will offer lots of options for you!

The wife and I started cruising with celebrity when we were in our 20's. We were sold right away on the experience. We are the Friday night on the cough sort. We cruise celebrity because we have very busy work schedules and Celebrity is the perfect down time for us.

Our trip is pretty low key. We do light shopping, enjoy the nightly shows, and spend an hour or two a day in Cafe al Bacio. The rest of our time is spent getting in some sun and spending a few hours at each port. We usually do a night or two at the specialty restaurants for a change of dining pace. Depending on ship we also do varied events during the day. We both really enjoyed the glass blowing on Eclipse. The primary people that won't get the most out of celebrity are the ones looking for the amusement park experience or are looking for the young party scene. There are younger couples on celebrity, but in our experience which has been 7 day cruises, there is usually a low mix of young children (except during the holiday cruises) and few hard core party types. Overall, I would describe it as a relaxed vacation.

My fiance and I are in our late 30s and took our first Celebrity cruise together ~3 years ago and loved it. We've cruised Celebrity, Carnival and Royal Caribbean together and Celebrity is hands down our favorite.

We're not big partiers and have never been to 1 of the clubs, so I can't speak to that. It sounds like that's not a big decision point for you, either. The crowd on Celebrity skews a bit older, but it's not like we felt out of place. The only thing I think may really matter is if you like crazy, crowded dance clubs - I'm not sure if Celebrity has that as much as Carnival would, for example.

We found plenty to do with activities - still lots of trivia and basic cruise ship activities. The food is definitely better and the decor feels more "modern hotel" instead of "cruise ship." We're a big fan of Qsine if that's on your ship - it's one of the best food experiences we've had on land or sea - and we're foodies that have been to some pretty impressive restaurants.

Our first Celebrity cruise was a Caribbean cruise on the Reflection not long after it had its first sailing. There was a singer/guitar player that we LOVED on that ship - we became his stalkers. He started recognizing us at shows and we ended up buying one of his CD's. We haven't found another music act that we've liked better on any ship. I also got completely hooked on jewelry making via the classes they offered on the Reflection - I took a simple class there that turned into more and more classes on land and has become a major hobby of mine.

Last year we took the Solstice in Alaska and really loved the hot glass show that's on that boat and a few others. We didn't expect to love it as much as we did. We went to so many shows that the artists recognized us and actually made a point of coming up and saying hi when they saw us in 1 of the ports. I'm a huge fan of Broadway shows and think their talent was the best of any cruise ship I've ever been on. I've been to a couple dozen shows on Broadway and many, many more in regional theater and national tours - and felt that a couple of their performers were true Broadway caliber. They had other shows I wanted to go to but never made it because I was so exhausted with everything I was doing.

We're getting married in 6 months and the honeymoon was the easiest decision we've made - Celebrity cruise! So this is my long way of saying that there is so much to do on Celebrity that it's definitely worth trying. Don't let the reputation that it has to skew a little older scare you.

This is good to know! We were so worried we'd be let down by a cruise other than Disney. The ship and experience was simply amazing! BUT no kiddos... no Disney for us lol. I think I'd feel too guilty going without my kids!

We are thinking about December before Christmas breaks. This is our last year we'll be able to go on a vacation during school. Our DD starts kindergarten next year. So our only chance to vacation will be during the typical times.

This is good to know! RC was the other line we were thinking about. But honestly, it didn't work into our schedules. I'm not oppose to trying it another year. This will be our second time cruising. I think I have a cruising bug :D
