4J rooms

Your view is forward out to a public walkway, albeit not a very busy one. We've stayed in a room like this before. It's nice because you can see forward and they're a great value. The walkway outside is a great spot to go to, often referred to as a "secret deck". You'll see that not many people tend to go out there. Sometimes it feels like your own (big) private balcony! People can't see into your room during the daytime, but they would be able to at night if the lights are on. So keep your blinds closed at night! Otherwise, highly recommend that room :)

I had one last year on the Freedom. I loved it. That forward deck is a great place for sailing into your port of call. It is often closed off though during times at sea. They put a sign up saying closed due to high winds. There was also a sign in the room saying you had to close the curtains after dark, for the bridge operation. I was on the deck right below the bridge, maybe that is why. But you would want the curtain closed at night anyway, so people cant look in.

Another pro-4J comment.

We have one booked on Breeze for this Saturday (10/10). Great deal as it's more like an interior price, but you get to see what the weather is outside, and only a few steps to the "secret deck" as mentioned before.

We had 10205 on the breeze a few weeks ago loved loved LOVED this room my DH even liked it more than a balcony, price may have done something to cause this but it was a great room, and the deck outside was a great spot almost never anyone else out on it.

Hey quit telling everyone about 4J's- best kept secret on the ship....we love them. If you want an extra bonus check to see if the handicap rooms are avail. 45 days out from your sail date when they release them. They are out the front of the ship on the ends, so they are triangle shaped....very large. We had one with a pole in the middle of the room- wifey didnt see the humor when I put dollar bills in my mouth!!!!!...The bathroom is very large, shower is 5 feet by 3 feet....it does have a seat that folds down but it doesn't get in the way.

We have had 2 sailings with these rooms.....Awesome. In 2 cruises I have probably seen 10 people on the front viewing deck....we have been on Lido both times, very nice to walk out over the wings- great views, great photo opportunities down the side of the ship.

I guess I'll be the voice of dissent. Some friends of mine sailed in a 4J on our Liberty cruise this past May, and I was very glad that I wasn't in that room with them. It felt very small and cramped in there; I'm not sure if it was the layout or if the room really was smaller than I'm accustomed to. There was also quite a bit of motion in their room. Both their cabin and ours were on the Lido level, both in the forward portion of the ship, but the motion was much more exaggerated in their 4J than our balcony. I've sailed in portholes before and not been bothered, so maybe it was the combination of being relatively high up and forward that affected me when I was in their room.

So, while many people really enjoy the 4Js and find them to be a great value, they're not for everyone.

The first picture above on this thread is of 9202 on Splendor. I know, because I took identical pictures in 2009. It is a large HC room, but closet space is very small. EM

I booked a 4J HC room 2 months ago and don't sail until January. I did so knowing I could be changed if it is needed and am ok with that. So far I still have it and was never asked if I actually needed a HC room. It and one other end HC was the only 2 4J's left. This is on deck 6 on the Sunshine. My PVP booked it for us.

Not raining on anyone' parade, but we had one of these cabins on The Glory. the Sixth..Upper Deck.

I was so sick from the motion that I had to crawl to the Casino, where the kind bartender who was just setting up gave me a canned coke. We have more sea days than most sailors, my husband claims and I have never felt like that. I could lay on the bed..and be fine...lift my head and nausea swamped me

BONIME if that is spelled right worked fine IF I took it in port an hour before the ship sailed. ( Doctor's office told me to do that when I got home and called them.)

I never sail without it now.......but seldom use it. IF you have EVER been Sea sick...CALL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE GOING as they know your medical history AND ASK WHAT SEA SICK MEDICATION CAN YOU SAFELY TAKE. AND TAKE IT AS DIRECTED.

you will not regret it, I promise. My husband, who was on active duty with the Coast Guard during Viet Nam, and then in the reserve for years..........LOVED it. Back then you could smoke on the deck. He and some more old vets would go out on that deck, puff cigars and talk for hours. He was NEVER ill for a second. Ate like a horse the entire cruise. ONE good thing.....I LOST Weight that week.

I will be on the Carnival Splendor on the 5-26-16 sailing. We are in room 9201. I know it is a room with an obstructed view, but I was just wondering if anyone has ever been in this type of room. Thank you!!

I love these rooms - inside price but you have a window and we find the rooms to be larger. The walkway outside is one of the "secret decks" and isn't busy. The windows are shaded to keep people from seeing in during the day and the curtain works well at night.

We just returned from the Liberty and stayed in 6205...best value I have ever had other than the first time I was on the Liberty back when they had the panoramic rooms on Spa Deck that had the floor to ceiling windows that they later replaced with balconies.

It was extremely quiet...no more motion than normal, and getting that shower made up for the long hike to everything.

Enjoy!

I haven't ever been in a 4J but I have one booked for next year. Now I'm having second thoughts. Maybe I should bite the bullet and pay for a balcony.

It depends on how sensitive you are to the motion of the ocean, and how high the cabin is. I love 4J's and book them whenever I can, I'm just not a balcony person. To each their own ! :)

DH and I aren't prone to motion sickness so we loved the 4j. The first night crossing the Gulf, it was a little rocky and didn't sleep a lot-it was noisy when the waves hit the ship. After that it was fine, we liked the location, it was quiet with no hallway traffic. We had the end cabin on Dream on Lido deck-10206.The "private balcony" was nice when in port, very windy on sea days. btw, the cabin we had was not handicapped and didn't have a couch, just a table with two chairs in the corner, which worked fine for us.
