Yes (requirements are the same) for the cruise, however there is at least one excursion that goes to Canada that requires a passport, possibly a passport card.

No passport is required but recommended. If you are have medical evacuation to a Canadian hospital. A passport or passport card will be required to fly back to the US. If you wanted to do the Bus/train tour in Skagway a passport , passport card or enhanced drivers license is required.

If the start/end is Vancouver, though, doesn't an adult need a passport (or enhanced ID) to get across the border? And in that way it's different from the Caribbean?

A passport card could not be used for an international flight, although it could be used to cross the land border and then the traveler could fly home.

As long as it ends in Seattle than it falls within the definition of a closed loop cruise and the same rules apply as they do in the Caribbean.

We just did this cruise in September. Remember, the ship also has to have a stop in a "distant foreign port" to comply with maritime laws. That port is often Victoria, British Columbia. If something were to happen to you while there you'd need a passport to fly home. Passport are good things to have ... and they're valid for 10 years before you need to renew them. Best practice is to have one and take it with you whenever you're going to leave the country.

Just to clarify, on a closed loop cruise the ship has to stop in (any) foreign port; not only a distant foreign port. Victoria, BC is not a distant foreign port per the PVSA. Edited October 17, 2015 by cherylandtk

Victoria is not a "distant foreign port" and there is no requirement for this itinerary to visit a "distant foreign port". The requirement is to visit a "foreign port" and Victoria meets this requirement for this closed loop trip.

 

Doesn't have anything to do with passports, but there is so much incorrect information about the PVSA put on these boards, just wanted to provide the correct information.

Some cruise lines stop in Prince Rupert BC instead of Victoria BC.
