Fascinating images of RMS Queen Mary surface after 80 years revealing the building and fitting out of the famously opulent transatlantic liner

 

Taken by Stewart Bale, the stunning snaps detail the historic construction, launch and fitting out of the famous ship

The one-of-a-kind album was first presented to Sir John Stewart, Provost of Glasgow, in 1937

 

80 years later, the album has resurfaced and will be up for auction on November 3 at Charles Miller in London

The RMS Queen Mary was known for its luxurious touches, opulent first class cabins and high-profile passengers

A one-of-a-kind album of photos documenting the birth of the RMS Queen Mary, Britain's glamorous transatlantic flagship from the Golden Age of steam, has come to light 80 years after its launch.

 

The collection of black and white snaps detail the historic construction, launch and fitting out of the famous ocean liner that became a byword for luxury and glamour on the prestigious route from Southampton to New York.

 

The album of 57 photographs were taken by Stewart Bale, a prominent photographer at the time, and capture the sheer opulence of the liner in its glorious heyday.
