LIV1820 Hang Out (Ages 18-20)

We are so excited to roll out fleet wide #LIV1820 - a one hour mixer hosted by our entertainment staff for our young guests, ages 18, 19 and 20. At the start of the cruise, they will get to meet and greet other guests of their own age.

#LIV1820 is a hang out onboard our Carnival Fun Ships, for 18, 19 and 20 year olds only. You can go into the nightclub, but you can’t drink. You’re too old to be in Club O2, but too young to fully enjoy the adult activities onboard. It’s time to embrace this awkward age and make it the best age to be. We are going to take over a VIP area, shut the doors and have some fun!

On embarkation day, there will be an invite in the ‘Fun Times’ or an invitation sent to guest staterooms.

Where and When: This will be on embarkation evening before the Nightclub opens or on the first elegant evening, between 9:30pm and 10:30pm -time and place may vary.

Has anyone had kids go to this?

I googled it, found an old FB post on John Heald's page when I googled from my phone....but when I went to read the comments I could go past the original post date.

When I looked for it on the computer I couldn't find it at all.

Our kids are now older but on our Miracle cruise a few weeks ago there were several 'meetings' for the 18-20yo. The ones I noticed took place in the Disco an hour before the Disco opened to everyone.

Our "kids" are older now but it is the most awkward age to be on a cruise. I've seen many a kid come back from a port so drunk they are in a wheelbarrow! Once onboard they can't drink again but sure can gamble... But you can bet more than half of them are drinking.. even if mom and dad don't know it.

We went on one cruise during that time, rest were land vacations. Sure wish Carnival would figure out something for them...

My DH and I took our first Carnival cruise last week. We had the same ship booked again in May (different itinerary) and our 20 year old daughter was going with us - we unfortunately decided to cancel it because of lack of entertainment. At that age, the casino and bars are out and I honestly would feel uncomfortable sitting with DD in the majority of the comedy shows. We did not care for the Hasbro shows and knew there wouldn't be much else to do other than movies. So, we decided for now to go back to NCL for the entertainment and might try Carnival again in a few years.

The only place off limits for 18-20 year olds is the serenity deck, so besides that and not being able to drink, I don't see the lack of entertainment people are talking about. I would have loved to have been able to go on a cruise at that age especially if someone else was paying for it.

She can gamble as the age is 18 on the ship (Carnival ships). Check on NCL, some cruiselines allow parents to sign a "permission" slip that allows over 18 to drink while in international waters... or at least they used to.

I think the Disco is over 21 after a certain time... may be wrong about that.

Agreed, I never went on a "real" vacation until i was 35--how i dreamed about it before then!!. Its silly to say 18-20 years have nothing to do...does everyone have to drink to have fun???

I was able to take my boys on 4 cruises during their college years--they were 18-22 for the 4 cruises--they loved it. Never complained and it gave us a chance at uninterrupted family time--cards, chess etc--we all had a great time. They did go to the disco, comedy clubs, shows etc. They are now graduated and certainly wish they could get the time off work to go again. Now its just me and my 9 year old DD---still love it.

All i got to do as a kid and younger adult was ride in a car/station wagon for trips to michigan:)

I have 5 kids (some in that age range) we have been on two cruises and I haven't noticed an issue either. My kids have always found plenty to do, with the family and alone. None of them included the casino or bars. But maybe we are just easy to please because we are on vacation. I say go, have fun!

Me neither.. Well, that's a lie. We went to my Aunts house in Minnesota and picked up rocks out of her fields in the summer and were told it was a vacation. :) And up until 4 years ago my kids had not either and they were ages 11 to 21 at the time.

We have taken our DD on three cruises and she has never been bored and has had a great time. Maybe I'm old fashion, but I do not want to sign a drinking waiver for her nor do I want to push spending money or gambling. When we cruise with our DD, I like to have shows that we can go together and enjoy. For me right now, I didn't see where Carnival offered that compared to the other lines we have sailed. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with Carnival (I enjoyed my recent cruise on Glory), but FOR ME it's not the best line for this age range.

My 19 year old has been cruising since she was 4, not the most outgoing but always loved camp and used it to make friends. Since turning 18 it has been a struggle to meet others her age, she is not going to wonder about by herself and talk to stranger/. In August they did have a meet and greet for 18-20 and she met some others as about 10-12 showed up that she liked but the issues was they did not exchange room numbers so there was no central meeting place and she never ran into them until toward end of the cruise. She still enjoys cruising but not as much in not having a meeting place for others her age

Our middle son is 19 and has been sailing since he was 8. He'd probably enjoy an 18-20 meeting to find people, but he's done fine without. This past summer on Breeze he met lots of people on the sports deck and never lacked for activities. And he doesn't drink or want to hang out in a deck chair, so no concerns with bars or Serenity. (Where did we get this child? It's a far cry from our oldest who partook of the rum punch on the catamaran in St. Thomas.:p)
