Panama Canal Embera Native Village Excursion

We will be taking this tour on our partial transit Panama Canal tour leaving Jan. 4, 2016. I am trying to find out if I should wear shorts on this excursion or is it very buggy?

Several years ago we did a private tour with Anna to the Embera village that her husband was from and I don't remember any bugs bothering us and I know I had shorts on and I think most of the 12 people in our group wore shorts. We did a 45 minute dugout ride to the village and spent about 3 hours in the village. It was a great trip.

I'd wear shorts...it's VERY HOT AND HUMID!

I did this tour to Embera Village earlier this year and we had no bugs bothering us. You might take a rain poncho, because if there is any wind on the lakes it will blow in on you.

We took this excursion in February 2013, and wore shorts. Really didn't notice bugs. This will be a LONG day for you, with going through the locks then doing this excursion, but it will be WELL worth it!

If I am going anywhere off the ship in the Caribbean that might have a rain forest or botanical garden, I always bring bug repellent that comes in little pkgs that open and wipe on your legs and arms. Only once did a tour guide pass a spray around and that was in Belize. If you can find these, probably at a sports store with camping equipment, buy them...easy to take with you

Have had a few bugs in Panama especially on days with no wind so would recommend you bring a bug wipe, just in case. I buy mine at a big box store that starts with a W. Also, you can usually get these in the medical department on the ship. Used to be provided in a bin at no charge like the acetaminophen but would guess they are now charging for them.

 

Important that you bring water!

thanks for the info. I wouldn't mind paying a little bit for one pkg on the ship. Heck, I had to pay $6 for a no name toothbrush~ I know W very well.:)
