escentialssoycandles Posted October 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 29, 2015 Help! I just got the ever so elusive email to upgrade to the Haven on our Nov 22 sailing. We are in a standard balcony (one of the secret larger ones) and just got the email to upgrade to H5 Courtyard Penthouse for $1000 per person or H9 Spa Haven Suite for $1250 per person. We only paid $1800 total for our balcony. It is our 40th birthday celebration and if I could splurge should I take this? There are currently 8 H5s openand 6 H9's. Should I call to negotiate price? cliffd64 Posted October 29, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 29, 2015 is that on top of what you already paid? If so, that's not a tremendous deal... it's about average...
Ron_L Posted October 29, 2015 #3 Share Posted October 29, 2015 Call. The worst that they can do is say no.

H5 Courtyard Penthouse Haven booking now is $6900 H9 Haven Spa Suite booking now is $5900 I paid $1800 total (so if we did it, the H5 upgrade for a total of $3800 plus all of the perks)
takeadip Posted October 29, 2015 #5 Share Posted October 29, 2015 First off CONGRATULATIONS...and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I would take the splurge and do it and here is why: In life..money will come and go..10 years from now you wont be able to recollect your bank account balances and bills that needed to be paid back when you were 40...but you will always remember your Haven experience. Once home from this amazing cruise there will be times that you are curled up on the sofa thinking about life ...and memories of the cruise will come back to you...putting a smile on your face!! to me you cant put a price on the experience you will have...think about it...you get to live like a rock star for a whole week!!!! plus...we loyalist cruisecritic lurkers get to read a great review when you get back!!! by reading the upgrade email...the toothpaste is out of the tube...you know what you need to do.. safe travels and calm seas..:) -Mark
FireEater Posted October 29, 2015 #6 Share Posted October 29, 2015 Is there glass window or balcony overlooking the courtyard? I imagine it being loud if so. I do not know, and have not seen reviews of courtyard living. I can only imagine after staying at courtyard hotel rooms, that the noise would be a factor in my decision. Don't wait too long though in your decision. I agree with the poster above..Take one or the other and talk about it for years to come.
landlady1952 Posted October 29, 2015 #7 Share Posted October 29, 2015 I got same offer a week or so ago. Had same dilemma. Just remember you don't get any of the extras like Internet minutes, dining or beverage package. May call in a week or so and see if I can negotiate a lower upgrade price. Let us know how you make out if you make a call. Wasn't sure I wanted to spend another $2000 just for a butler and concierge. Good luck

Good luck Oh I thought if you upgrade you get all of the perks from the original booking offer? Mine was Ultimate Dining, Prepaid Gratuities, OBC, UBP. If that is not the case then it is not worth it as I don't care about a butler and concierge as this cruise is port intensive.

We are a newly blended family with 6 kids (ages 7-18) and traveling without them. We may not get a chance like this again. The angel on one side of me knows we have a 2 bedroom Family Suite + Interior that we are taking next year over Thanksgiving and this upgrade could go to paying that. The devil on the other shoulder says take this and make this trip special and book 2 balconies on the family cruise. The kids don't care about all the special perks in a suite. AGH! landlady1952 Posted October 29, 2015 #11 Share Posted October 29, 2015 You only get what you had with your original reservation. If you had UBP only then that's all you get. I thought same as you and when I called was told you don't get any of the extras. That's why I didn't jump on offer.
hypercafe Posted October 29, 2015 #12 Share Posted October 29, 2015 I just got back from the GEM. We took the upgrade to a villa and had a great time. Did not get the perks but kept the one I already had. It was so great I booked the same room for July and will bring my kids and grandchildren. escentialssoycandles Posted October 29, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted October 29, 2015 Well then why spend $2000 if I am not getting anything in return? I am super happy about our really big secret balcony so I guess if I'm not getting ultimate dining or any of the other bonuses then a concierge definitely is not worth $2000. That is another seven night cruise for me.

You can just get Spa Passes. I would NOT take this offer but I would spend that money on your new FAMILY trip, like you originally planned. Call me crazy but all those kids will be grown before you know it. Make your new blended family's trip special! But that's just me (plus NCL is NOT offering a great deal)

That should only cost about $600.
escentialssoycandles Posted October 29, 2015 Author #17 Share Posted October 29, 2015 That's my thought too. I have UBP and Specialty Dining already paid. I was going to do Vibe but the BF isn't interested in the spa. So $200 is nothing compared to $2000 (which is just under my monthly salary) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
TraJon9 Posted October 30, 2015 #18 Share Posted October 30, 2015 We got the same offer a month before the cruise , November 8th. Then last week at 17 days before we got the new offer. H5 for 500, spa at 750, and upward.. We actually got the H5 down to 400 per person. We booked and the funny thing is they still sent us another offer after booking same prices.. I was happy with the balcony, 2000 could go to another trip. 800 to 1000 we jumped. Keep a very close eye on your email. And hope for the 500.. Let us know! TraJon9 Posted October 30, 2015 #19 Share Posted October 30, 2015 Btw I reduced our speciality dining down to 3 night package, since we will have Haven to eat now. Keeping Cagneys, LeBistro and Ocean Blue.. One night will be at Shanghai.
txagfan Posted October 30, 2015 #20 Share Posted October 30, 2015 (edited) Wow, seems early for a cruise leaving in more than 3 weeks. I thought I'd have to wait until end of next week before even thinking of calling for my Thanksgiving cruise. Dinotoll Posted October 30, 2015 #24 Share Posted October 30, 2015 (edited) We just had the H2 Penthouse Suite, for the first view its nice, but together with the Haven and all the perks for suite guests ( which are not existing  ) its the money not worth. In the concierge lounge of the Haven you have nothimg, no drinks , coffee , sandwiches, fruit, nor newspapers, book nothing. Coffee has bad taste and must be paid. The Haven restaurant was always crowed and the tables are too narrow , so you have no privacy. No perks like free internet minutes or laundary work, free drinks nothing. So all together I do not need butler service and can not recommened the haven. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqQVP_XwImA Maybe for some people the PH Suite is nice, but we where disappointed. No teamaker, nesspresso machine has no quality, tv to small, bed not long enough, no whirlpool tube, no antifog mirror in bath, large balcony but poor furnished. Tinknock50 Posted October 30, 2015 #25 Share Posted October 30, 2015 May be a bit off-topic, but does NCL offer upsells often? I am talking more about upsells from obstructed views to balconies, for example.....not the more deluxe suites.
