_beachgirl_ Posted November 19, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2015 Hi there, My husband and I are going to be in Cozumel in mid January. We're hoping to save some money and not do any shore excursions. What would you recommend we do for our day? Is there anything great to do near the port? Is it safe to walk around? minaco Posted November 19, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 19, 2015 Perfectly safe to walk around the main shopping strip area near the cruise port. If you are looking for a great restaurant, try Pancho's Backyard. Excellent food, drinks and live Mariachi band daily.
_beachgirl_ Posted November 19, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted November 19, 2015 Thank you so much for the tip. I checked out the restaurant and wow, that food looks delicious. Will definitely make a stop there and spend the rest of the day wandering around since it seems to be safe enough. Thanks!
OCruisers Posted November 19, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 19, 2015 It's absolutely safe enough to walk around! Look forward to having a great day! :)
JohninDC Posted November 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 20, 2015 Taxi (about $10 each way for up to 4 passengers in the same cab) to the Money Bar for great snorkeling from the shore. Good facilities, rental gear and guides if you need them, good food/drink/service, no admission fee. http://moneybarbeachclub.com/

It is safe to walk around but there are three piers in Cozumel. It would depend on which cruise line you are with where you will dock and what will be available for you to do locally. chong67 Posted November 20, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 20, 2015 I will be there this Tuesday my first time on cruise. Open up Google map and do the street view and drag the road. If feels like you are there to get a feel. It look like a nice place being on a island. I like to walk. There are 3 piers. Mine will dock at the International Pier. Have anyone walk to downtown? Any suggestion on free things to do? Thanks.

CT Sean Posted November 20, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 20, 2015 snorkel dive eat drink shop rent a car and drive to the mostly uninhabited east side and do #'s 3 and 4 Town is plenty safe to walk around, though I will mention that the locals are much more vocal about tying to convince you to enter their shops, which might be no big deal to you, or a huge turn-off (like it is to my wife). Rare skittl1321 Posted November 20, 2015 #10 Share Posted November 20, 2015 I'd take a cab to Money Bar and swim (or snorkel if you have equipment- you can rent it from them too). Buy a drink each, share a plate of nachos. Perfect inexpensive day.
