Do we have to book nightly shows? Can we just show up for them?

You can just show up, but you will not be able to enter the venue until about 10 minutes before the show starts. This will limit your choice of seating. The comedy venue is the smallest and is the most difficult to get into without reservations.

We booked the late night comedy show (I think day 4 or 5 at 11 PM, it was the latest offering) was not full, but all others were, so make sure you book that one in advance. The last day of each show's offering was very busy due to people making reservations earlier in the week and then not showing up in addition to everyone realizing it was the last offering of the show. For the Blue Planet show the line for no reservations stretched all the way into the casino. I BELIEVE all of those folks did end up finding a seat, but I cannot confirm.

We have heard from several sources that the Oasis class ships have done away with both formal nights and the Captain's Table. Does anyone know if this is true? We will be on Allure for the next two weeks and need to know what to pack.

We just got off the Allure and there were 2 formal nights and the majority of people dressed up. I saw no tuxes, but the majority of people wore something that was above casual dress. Most men had sport coats with open collared. I did not see that many ties. Interestingly, there were a few men who just refused to dress up and were in jeans and a golf shirt, but their spouses wore cocktail dresses.

Formal nights still exist on the Oasis class ships. On the Quantum, they have one "formal" speciality restaurant- forgot the name- Men were required to wear jackets at that venue. If they didn't bring them, the restaurant host/hostees would give you one to wear. Of course it didn't match the persons outfit and didn't fit- not to mention perhaps others that might not be clean wore it before you. So if you want to try it, men bring a blazer, suit or sports jacket. Or do not dine in that restaurant. Ladies wore everything from ball gowns to pants and fancy tops.

My favorite was a couple that sat in the Promenade almost every evening by the Starbucks. She was always in a dress and he always had a camo hat on. His formal dress was black jeans, a black shirt, and his camo hat to go along with her black cocktail dress.

But agreed, a majority of people looked good. Formal night means something different today than it did 25 years ago, and since I'm in the younger generation I don't mind at all. But I was one of those in a suit & tie :-)

Really, it "means" the same thing but people just don't feel they need to (or want to) make the effort anymore.

I understand the whole "It's my vacation so I will wear what I want to wear. No one should make me dress up to do anything" mindset, but I do think if you choose not to dress appropriately for certain venues- you should not expect the venue to bend the rules for you.

Suit & tie for men and a cocktail dress/fancy top and pants is the least anyone in my party will do for formal night. We don't get to dress up that often. I am not going to buy a ball gown just for a cruise, when we cruise once every other year on average. I will make the effort to dress up and look nice.

That is kind of a surprise isn't it? That is one thing everyone seems to bang on Royal for, the lack of a good pizza

To be clear to everyone, I was referring to a personal pizza you can order and delivered to your table in about 10 minutes. The Oasis class Sorrento's does have slices of the same marginal pizza that the other ships do.

I was just a little dissapointed that when they added "Oasis upgrades" to other ships that they didn't add the personal pizzas to the other sorrentos. Thinking back, one two Allure trips I've only seen 3 or 4 personal pizzas made. I don't know if Royal does promote it, or doesn't want to, or if good pizza on a cruise just isn't important enough for most people. (I know I'm happy when I find it, but can find other things, except maybe at 11pm. If the Sorrento's on MAjesty that is open 24 hours offered this, I'd be there every night.

Some people say Steelers jerseys are not appropriate for any night!

Kidding. Enjoy Allure, we have!

Anything for the Steelers is ALWAYS appropriate. Ha Ha Ha

Just for that, I will be sure I find something Steelers oriented to add to my attire. LOL

They are definitely appropriate for football nights. LOL Although, they do sort of need to get their mess together. Good Lord, it's heart attack city watching them these days.

I plan to enjoy the Allure. We will be on Eastern itinerary this time. If you have any helpful hints, please let me know. I understand there are 4 or 5 ships in port in St. Maarten the day we are there. I am assuming that will be pretty close to the same in St. Thomas as they usually track on the same days.

Not especially looking forward to Nassau, but if you have any suggestions would love to know.
