BellaBaci4 Posted December 1, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 1, 2015 We just returned from a quick 5 day on the Emerald. I was definitely on high alert after reading some of the negative reviews. I just don't understand the negativity. It was a wonderful cruise. Food and service was great, with two nights in the specialty restaurants. The casino was NO smoking allowed which I appreciated more than anyone. I play Hold em poker, and we had a game every night. Most nights there was waiting for a seat which the casino refused to make a list for, insisting that the table do it ourselves. I have never seen this done in any other casino that I have visited. It really is a recpie for disaster We signed up for the Sanctuary which I enjoyed very much. We did not have the greatest weather, which made the Sanctuary something I could have passed on, but we purchased it for the entire cruise. The photos, as usual were very high priced. I really believe people would purchase more if they lowered the price. All in all, a wonderful cruise, any questions, ask away. Bella
cbreit Posted December 1, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 1, 2015 Was that "no smoking allowed" during the entire cruise?
Rare TracieABD Posted December 1, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 1, 2015 Thanks for your mini- review. I agree about the photos. At almost $40 a pop, it is not something that we purchase often, especially since most of them look like "cruise ship photos".

BellaBaci4 Posted December 2, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted December 2, 2015 Yes, it was, but we did not know that from the beginning because each not the sign said No smoking tonight in the casino, and it happened to be there every night.
graphicgal Posted December 2, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 2, 2015 We will be going on the Emerald for a 5-day in January to Bahamas & Grand Turk. What was your itinerary on this one? Was there a formal night on the 5-day? Just wondering.

BellaBaci4 Posted December 2, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted December 2, 2015 The 2nd night was a formal night, but I noticed many people did not dress in formal attire. I don't know if it was because it was a short cruise, or if that is just changing with people. I know, I don't dress like I used to, but still wear a dress. I think it is a little easier for women to dress down a bit. My son wore a suit without a tie. The Sanctuary included ice water all day and tea sandwiches and desserts in the late afternoon. The area was never full, but again, we did not have the best weather.
cbreit Posted December 2, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 2, 2015 Crossing my fingers it's non-smoking when it comes out of drydock. Quit smoking about 5 years ago and can't stand the smell anymore!
OCruisers Posted December 3, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 3, 2015 The Sanctuary is always non-smoking. I've never been on a Princess cruise when it was non-smoking EVERY night in the Casino. In the past it has only been that way on formal nights. If so, this would be a BIG change that some may like but others may not. LuLu

We are doing a 5 day on Emerald (1/18/16)before our 14 day (beginning 1/23) on Emerald. Our 5 day will have a formal night on our At Sea day (1/20) between Princess Cays and Grand Turk. Netguru Posted December 3, 2015 #13 Share Posted December 3, 2015 We sailed on the Emerald on a 4 night over Halloween. The starboard side of the casino (about 1/3 of the room) is always no smoking. This side is where the Poker Pro table is located, one pit with craps and blackjack tables and a small number of slots. The other 2/3 of the casino with the bar and another pit with blackjack and other card games and the majority of slots is smoking. One night of the 4 night cruise, the casino was no smoking in the entire casino. There wasn't a formal night on this cruise, just a dress-to-impress night, which for most people was no different than the other nights.
