New Entertainment Policy????

Was Frank Castiglione the cruise director? According to the cruise director list here on CC it appears that he just boarded the ship at the end of November before refit. That fact, the likely crew changes and equipment issues probably contributed to some holes in the entertainment schedule. I don't know what went on, but just speculating. I've always heard that it's risky going on a cruise right after drydock. I'm sure they'll get it all sorted out soon. I'm sorry for the people who had bad luck with this cruise.

Poor entertainment and activity planning by the CD can not be used as an excuse for just coming on board. Cruise Directors have years and years of experience, are senior officers, and receive a good salary. They should always be prepared for the demographic on a five day cruise. I have noticed that many CD's get lost when they are not in their repeating 7 or 10 day cruise cycles. There is no excuse for this. In your case I would rate the CD poorly in the survey.

They shortened the shows to offer three nightly as a way to deal with the shortage of seating in the Princess Theater. At the same time they pretty much eliminated a second show in the Explorers Lounge. Now they've eliminated the third show in Princess Theater. Without a doubt, the Emerald Princess seems to bear the brunt of Princess entertainment cutbacks.

:(

Thanks for the entertainment update. We were on the Emerald in November and noticed that there were fewer production shows than we're used to.

By the way, we met Darko on this cruise. His name tag caught our attention due to your many "dinner with Darko" posts. Nice fellow, very tall. He told us he is slated to transfer to another ship but is appealing to remain on the Emerald.

Princess needs to spice it up after 10pm.

My wife and I were recently in Las Vegas and they have all these sexy but not over the top burlesques shoes at the major casinos and every venue was packed. Absinthe was our favorite at Caesars Palace but there were several shows. We saw all types of people there from from couples to singles to groups of bachelor/bachelorette parties, etc it was rollicking fun.

Princess can call it Princess After Dark and make it 18 and over for admittance. Sexy costumes, R-rated comedians, and adult themes. I'm not talking naked or stripper shows LOL just an adult Vegas style show.

They would sell more drinks and they would get a new late night audience. They can still put on the family friendly entertainment shows but then after 10pm or 11pm give people a fun late night experience to keep the party going!

Just my humble idea no need to attack if you are against a R rated show.

Hi. I had heard from him a couple of weeks ago and he thought he could get back to the Emerald Princess. We're hoping he does!

We were just off the Caribbean Princess. Only two shows each night in the theater. An evening movie was shown only two nights in the Princess Theater. Entertainment options were few and far between. Most "events" were informercials for jewelry and such. I am usually not bored on a cruise but found this one had few options to keep me interested. There weren't even lectures other than on jewels (to sell even more jewelry) I was rather disappointed in the daily activities. And don't get me started on the new menus. Found the choices very disappointing.

Princess eliminated the late night adult shows a few years ago after they received complaints from passengers who got insulted (even being warned numerous times before the show started). When you fill out the after cruise survey don't forget to request that they return.

Thanks for the information; yeah that figures LOL

I would have thought all of the prudes would have been in bed by then but some people just like to complain for a living. Oh well just had so much fun at the late night burlesque shows in Vegas that I thought it might be a good idea.

Have a good day

What I can't understand is why after 10 to 15 announcements about being an adult show they would continue to sit there & then complain?

Some people just have to have a say on all the material being presented which offends them even if they're not there to hear it.

I suppose that why some schools no longer celebrate Christmas. :(

As a single, independent woman, I find many of the 'comedians' very far from funny because their jokes are almost entirely aimed at middle class American couples (and often along the lines of men guarding the credit cards because women otherwise would spend helplessly) - but I don't complain about it, there seems little point, I just walk out.

And when there are enough things that don't amuse me, I vote with my wallet and cruise on other lines - the only 'complaint' that works for me.

Celebrity offers 2 shows a night, at roughly 7:00 and 8:30, and they make it clear that late diners are supposed to go the the early show before dinner, while early diners go to the 2nd show after dinner. We don't care for this at all, we are late diners who enjoy a leisurely cocktail before dinner and don't want to rush to a show. But Celebrity insists their data shows this is what their cruisers want (although they give no info on who is actually saying this!) Maybe this is the direction Princess is moving??

The difference is X can accommodate pax demand with 2 shows Princess does not have the theater capacity to handle pax load in just two shows that is why they cut the shows to 30 minutes 3 times a night now with twice a night they cannot seat all pax for the shorter shows so are they going back to full length shows or keeping the shorter 30 minute venue that you need to show up at least 30 minutes early for to get a seat?

On Celebrity can't you get a drink at 5:30 another at 6 and then saunter over to the show at 6:30 for the 7pm show?

Just another service cut.

You do realize you are not the norm or average passenger and what you find relevant and funny would not be the same for the majority of passengers who are likely in their later years of marriage?

The reason the audience laughs at the jokes is they identify with the material.

So I wonder what your take on a comedian making fun of single independent women who cruise alone would be?

I bet you would likely walk out but the married couples would be still find it funny.

A no win for you but as a strong independent women you should find humor and satisfaction in the fact that no man manages you expenditures.

The only problem with that is most of the comedians work all of the cruise lines at one time or another & don't change their material during their career. What I've heard on Princess is the same stuff I hear on RCI & NCL.

We were on board this cruise with you. Not a new policy. Just an awful cruise director and an ill-prepared crew. We were indeed supposed to have two production shows - one of them being the new, highly touted "Magic to Do" about which we had received a pre-cruise email form the CD. Clearly, either the cast or technical crew was not ready to perform the show, so they pulled it from this cruise and will debut it on the one that is sailing now. The CD couldn't come up with something to replace it other than 4 nights of mediocre comedy?

28 cruises behind me, 22 on Princess. This was by far the worst cruise I have ever sailed. It came out of drydock and clearly was not ready to do so. Read the other thread about the plumbing issues, medical "all call" in the middle of the night - twice, and so much more.

Many, many blue and gold cards on board. Most of them will never sail Princess again. Platinums, too. Even some of the 189 Elites on board were considering trying other lines.

I have read many comments about Princess ships coming out of dry dock, and not being ready.

I got a comedian friend that is about yo so shows on cruise ships soon , by sounds of it they have to make sure that the language is clean etc , he was asked to have v3 different shows for three different time slots not in princess I don't think buy give it time he might be one day
