shmoggy Posted December 21, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 21, 2015 I'll be sailing with my 3 kids, is there any discount to put 4 of us in one room vs having 2 of us in one room and 2 in another? The kids ages are 18, 13 & 11, if that makes any difference, and Grandma is going on the trip too, I'm not sure if she'll be in a room alone or share with another family member or stay in a room with one or 2 of the kids. Just looking for the cheapest combination for us without overcrowding! We did 5 in a cabin one year and it was ROUGH!
Budget Queen Posted December 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 21, 2015 Usually 3/4 person rates are lower, so many times, it is cheapest to have 4 in a room. You'll need to price out various options on your particular cruise choice and date and see what you find.
Out of Iowa Posted December 21, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 21, 2015 Up until now, there are often been four of us in an inside Carnival cabin - and we've always done fine. The trick is to have the lower beds as twins which gives the impression of more space and makes it easier to walk around. Just don't bump your head on the overhead bunks! Take one of those over-the-door plastic shoe holders to corral your small items (Post It notes, pens, Funtimes, sunscreen, camera, pony holders, etc.). It can be used on the knobs used by Carnival for the continental breakfast menu.

See if Grandma will take one of the kids . Then she won't have to pay the single supplement for her cabin . Depending on the cruise line the supplement could almost double her fare. If one one of the kids is a girl , have in Grandmas cabin.
SadieN Posted December 21, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2015 Which ship and what time of year? Some of the newer ships have family cabins. Sometimes double cabins can be cheaper pp than higher occupancy cabins.

rtap23 Posted December 21, 2015 #7 Share Posted December 21, 2015 We always do 4 to a room and never have had any issues. It's a lot cheaper than having 2 rooms.
MaiTaiMary Posted December 21, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 21, 2015 Yes, the third and fourth passenger will be discounted. If you compare the price to the exact same cabin category, it will always be cheaper to do one cabin. I'd definitely try to put one of the kids with Grandma, if at all possible. MaiTaiMary Posted December 21, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 21, 2015 Just start plugging in the numbers on the Carnival site. You'll know in just a minute or so what the difference is that you're looking at.
crusinpsychRN Posted December 21, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 21, 2015 The kids just need to know to keep cabin "ship shape" otherwise there are shoes all over, towels where they shouldn't be.
shmoggy Posted December 21, 2015 Author #11 Share Posted December 21, 2015 Thanks y'all, I guess we'll have at least 3 in a room with Grandma around and see how that goes. EAR PLUGS! LOL.

You have to price it both ways and see which works out better. As far as crowding two to a cabin will always be a better option than 4 in a cabin. familycruzr Posted December 29, 2015 #13 Share Posted December 29, 2015 We used to always put 4 of us in a cabin, but I compared the prices on the last 2 cruises and it was't that much more to get 2 inside rooms. It's been great having 2 rooms instead of 1.

I believe Carnival has now banned the use of those. http://cruisefever.net/11102-over-the-door-organizers-no-longer-allowed-on-carnival-cruise-line/
springs741 Posted December 29, 2015 #15 Share Posted December 29, 2015 I believe Carnival has now banned the use of those. http://cruisefever.net/11102-over-the-door-organizers-no-longer-allowed-on-carnival-cruise-line/ The FAQ of Carnival says so long as they are fire-retardant, hang inside the stateroom and do not damage the door they are allowed. As directed in the post, they sould be used on the metal hooks in the room where the breakfast cards are usually found. There is the link regarding the shoe organizer: https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3256/kw/door%20decorating
