I will be taking my first Celebrity Cruise on the Silhouette in January.

I have ben on 11Princess Cruises Just wondering what the differences will be...

Was on the Regal Princess last year and it was ok not grate and it made me want to try something different.

Princess ships tend to for the most part all kind of look the same, dark wood lots of marble and small dinning rooms, what is the ship decor like on X?

Thanks really looking Forward to cruising with X, I have herd and read a lot off good things about the cruise line and the S class ships.

Hi,

I haven't been on princess so I can't really offer any comparison between the 2 lines... But would be very interested in how you feel the silhouette stands up compared to your experience on princess as we would like to try princess one day..

As for celebrity and the silhouette in particular which is our favourite ship, I find it very hard to find a bad point about any of it, the decor is bright & modern in a lot of areas with a darker and cosy feel in other area so you get a good contrast... But for us one of the main pluses is it always looks spotless & brand new in all areas... Also from my limited experience of other ships/lines I'd say celebrity s/class ships have the best pool beds layout area around as although it does get busy on nice days you can generally get a bed somewhere... (All s/class ships look very similar with just a few differences in colour mainly)

Hope you enjoy the silhouette in Jan & do come back to let us all know how it compared with princess in your view... [emoji4]

We are Platinum on Princess but switched to X because the suites have butler service. I like the smaller Celebrity Millennium class (sailing Constellation again in March) and Princess Grand class (sailed the Grand twice).

Regal Princess is 3,600 passengers vs. Constellation at 2,000.

Must be showing my age. I like the older, smaller ships. :)

We have done both numerous times. I agree with above poster that if you are in suite then Celebrity has much more to offer. Both in Rooms and Benefits. As far as ship goes it feels like Celebrity has more bar options as well as specialty restaurants. We are looking forward to trying the Pub on Equinox but also did enjoy Alfredos on Princess, especially since food was free there. All in All I would say the overall experience will be similar. Not like going from Princess to RCCL or NCL.

We do both lines and book according to itinerary and price. We liked all of the Princess ships except the Ocean which was too small for us. We are Platinum on Princess, have 100 shares of their stock and my husband is a veteran so we enjoy onboard credit with them. We've been on three Celebrity ships (Constellation, Summit and Reflection) love them all and have two booked for this year. We love the solarium indoor pool, no smoking in the casino, the Aqua Spa Café and Café al Bacio.

Do princess allow smoking in the casino/indoor areas then? That would be a big turn off for us as that's one of the things we love about celebrity

We are also Platinum on Princess. We sailed X for the first time in Jan on the Infinity and loved it. We felt the service was better on X, including immediate attention to small problems that arose (i.e., locked out of safe). Called once and they were there within minutes, not the case on Princess according to our experiences. We love the drink pkg option, makes life more carefree. We felt the entertainment was better but didn't see a big difference in the food. We booked another cruise on the Silhouette while on board for 2016 with awesome perks. Looking forward to sailing the S class.

As of my last Princess cruise (Feb 2015) there was smoking in the casino. They usually have a couple nights when it's smoke free, but it still smells of smoke because it's impossible to get that smell out of rugs, curtains etc. I think that's the only indoor smoking venue---the rest of the ship is ok. In a way it's good for us , we don't lose too much money in the casino, since I can't take the smell!

We just cruised Princess Grand in October. One non-smoking night in casino...rest of nights were really bad. We actually avoided the entire outside area around the casino - the smell permeated well beyond its entrance. We'd just go up or down a flight to get around it...it was that strong. Great cruise overall - enjoyed a few things about Princess X didn't offer (e.g. dining in MDR at embarkation). But I think they need to install new casino ventilation systems...existing one doesn't seem to work too well.

Alcoholics drinks more expensive, decor is a bit more light and airy. Will admit, dining rooms on Celebrity are a vast improvement over Princess.

Sorry to disagree with you on the Celebrity dining rooms being a vast improvement over Princess. We just got off of the Eclipse and then the Regal. Regal had a much more intimate dining experience and the food was much better in quality, selection and quantity.

Celebrity has reduce the menu selection. The right hand side of the menu now contains both the evening menu and the selection every night. On the left hand side was your drinks.

Celebrity MDR is very nosy and if you enter on Deck 3 there is only one entrance into the MDR. If you are seated on the MDR left side you have to weave your way between tables, passengers and waiters to get to your table. There is no clear way.

OP stated that all Princess ships are the same looking. That also applies to all S-Class ships as we have been on all of them, too. Yes, we are Elite Plus on X.

After having done 3 cruises on both Silhouette and Regal each has their pluses and minuses . Regal has a very outstanding Piazza when you compare it to the little/crowded Grand Foyer. The Regal International Cafe (IC) has much more to offer FREE than the Café al Bacio & Gelateria. The IC offers many different items each morning, noon and night that are free. No comparison.

Entertainment is much better on Regal as there is much more going on each night. Some people do complain about the size of the showroom. However, if you get there early, you are OK.

Regal cabins are a little smaller as are the balconies. Perks on Princess at the Elite level are much better than X Elite+.

X has a better Elite Happy 2 Hours even when X uses the 3 coupons/evening.

Totally agree with the smoking in the casinos on all Princess ships. Princess should stop smoking in any area except the decks.

We had just the opposite on Eclipse in the way of immediate attention to a problem. So, that depends on what it is and who handles it. Yes, it seems like X offers awesome perks, but in reality you are paying for them. Nothing is free.

We did our first Celebrity cruise on the Silhouette in December and we really enjoyed it. After cruising Princess for so many years and being Elite we decided it was time for a change. A few things to note...

*Cabins are larger on X and the bathroom has a shower door and not the clingy shower curtain, loved that! However, not as much storage/drawer space on Celebrity and Princess has the best closet space...ever...IMHO!

*We loved the decor all over the ship since it was very modern and different from Princess. We like the warm feeling of Princess but this was a nice change. X serves champagne when you board, a very nice touch.

*Dining room was very nice but tables very close together on X, not much room to get in/out. Food in the dining room on X was served warm at best and usually way over done for me.

*However, Celebrity buffet has great choices and we loved the Pasta station! Everything was hot & very tasty! Did miss the servers bringing the beverages to the tables like Princess does.

*Room stewards have an assistant and they don't seem to have as many of the linen carts up and down the halls like on Princess.

*Bar service on X seemed just so, so. Servers and bartenders on Princess are much friendlier we find.

*Love the burgers at the Mast Grill on X along with the self serve beverage & ice cream.

*No smoking on X was really a big bonus for us in the casino area and the stores along the boulevard were very nice.

We booked the same cabin and ship for next December! I am sure you will enjoy the Silhouette very much and the grass up on the outside deck is really cool! I wish we would have tried the Lawn Grill restaurant it looked really good.

We have future Princess cruises booked and will continue to sail with them, the Elite perks are nice after all. But now we have another choice that we really like so looking forward to sailing on both.

Enjoy your cruise!:D

Andrea

I will for sure,I fell i will be comparing the two lines for the whole cruise.

This will be a huge mistake. Go and enjoy a different experience but if you start to compare, you can bet you will find disappointments. And if you can't resist comparing, keep your observations to yourself while on board. While we all want to hear your opinions here, no one on board will want to hear "On Princess, the apples were cut into quarters but here only in halves". (Actually heard that once). :D

So the main Atrium on the s class ships is small and crowded?...looks really bright and open on the photo and videos that i have seen..If so thats kind of disappointing considering its the hart of the ship.

Go look at Regal or Royal. Much bigger, brighter.

We made the mistake of comparing Princess to Celebrity on our first cruise on Princess a month ago. In retrospect we had a really good time on Princess although Celebrity is our preferred line. Each cruise line has a different vibe and we enjoy the variation on both Princess and Celebrity.

What you are getting here is opinions. Best to get your own impressions when aboard. Some may think the Atrium is small while others might think it is more than adequate.

Yes, you are getting opinions. Yes, others may think it is more than adequate. However, pictures do show a drastic difference.

Rereading your post #1, it says "I will be taking my first Celebrity Cruise on the Silhouette in January." So there's not much point in trying to poison you with repeated opinions and pictures. Silhouette is not Regal. Period. But it is a wonderful ship in its own right. DW and I prefer smaller ships so our first Celebrity cruise was on Summit, which we enjoyed very much. Our second Celebrity cruise was on Eclipse (one of Silhouette's sisters) -- which we chose because of a unique itinerary but with some trepidation because it wasn't what we were used to -- and we were very pleasantly surprised. The S-class ships are beautiful, very well laid-out [we got the hang of it faster than on any previous cruise], with very good elevators and staircases [did I read that Royal/Regal are deficient in this regard?]. I'm sure there are things on Regal that are "better" than on Silhouette -- but equally there are surely things on Silhouette that are better than on Regal. Go with the attitude that you are looking for those better things, and you'll have a great cruise!
