Caribbean Princess Still at Dock Houston

This seems to be a frequent problem in Houston. At least the prior cruise was able to get in on time and this week's passengers were allowed to board and start their vacation. Let's hope the weather clears soon so the port schedule isn't too disrupted, as it was last week.

Interesting to see the weather issues on the port cam. Not my idea of an ideal start to a cruise. We thought about doing one of these Houston cruises. Glad we didn't after last season's issues and now it seems to be continuing on into this season.:(

Just seems like the ship is slightly jinxed. It was not just Houston weather that disrupted last week, winds in Belize and Rotaan, Noro the week before. Was tempted to put a "kick me sign" on the captain last week. It just seemed like everything he tried backfired. Great crew ship is in great shape. Good thing cause 4 days straight on her could have been monotonous.

Yeah..then why did the other ships go right in...plus other ships made alternative ports to make up with missing ports...heard most passengers say going elsewhere next time.
I don't know, as I don't have the captain's log, nor the port agent's directions for each ship. That's up to them jointly, and individually. The harbormaster is just that, as well as the master of the vessel. Edited by jewelsea21

What ships that missed Belieze and Roatan went to other ports? Since you made the comment you must have specifics? What other ships wnet right in at what ports?

As someone mentioned when they could not make it into Mahogany Bay they did go to an alternative, the other more open port on Roatan.

On this route once they go to Roatan there is not much else that they can do. If they knew weather was bad for sure at Belieze there is a chance they could go to Costa Maya or Progresso, but to have any chance of doing that they would have to make the decision right when they left Roatan. Since they would not know about Belieze until they got there not much chance of that. Take a map and mark the distances to another port and look at how long it would even take to reach it at the speed the ship goes.

Aside from the overall dimensions of Caribbean Princess making tight maneuvering difficult if there's wind broadside, don't forget that Skywalkers adds an extra element of difficulty in navigating in windy conditions.

This is and has always been a factor.

Yes tenders were available at RotaAn, 4 hrs after our scheduled arrival time on an 8 HR port call. Princess tours had priority and we were not willing slug it out for tender

tickets. We decided if open tenders were not available by noon, we'd bag it. This was encouraged by the captain's announcements where he basically said "it's gonna suck, so unless you have a yearning desire to experience Honduran squalor for a couple of hours stay on board".

So we had a nice day on board, but it took forever to get out of there (something about a long anchor chain) and so we were late again to Belize and (news flash) the winds get higher when the sun comes up so again the wind on CB's big ass kept us from doing anything there.

So we sailed on, past all the afore mentioned ports that same day. We've Sailed a dozen times from coz to Houston in a day and a half so I don't understand why we gave ourselves three days for the trip.

We had a busted itinerary on NCL, that resulted in an overnight in Cozumel. Would have been cool to do that Christmas Eve.

Last year we were on Emerald in January out of Houston and our Sunday 4pm turned into Monday near noon. We skipped Roatan and went to Costa Maya instead. Hardly a good trade off but they did their best when it was out of their control. The biggest other frustration was a limited bar menu and no casino. Oh, and it was still chilly on deck when the Buckeyes won the National Championship shown on MUTS...but I didn't mind.

Yep, as I mentioned earlier when they have to leave late they drop the furthest port, shorten the route and substitute Costa Maya.

What is the sail time from Belieze to Cozamel? I would expect that you might have gotten there for a short visit, same with Costa Maya, except that bad weather was expected to hit Houston and the ship was expecting to having to return early and make port the evening before scheduled arrival.

The other point to consider is that the same front that was causing the wind in Belieze may have also been impacting Costa Maya (I have been there when waves were breaking over the pier and ships had problems getting in due to wind.)

and Cozamel.
