Tell me about your Alaskan cruise

I don't remember the Legend having a Red Frog Pub when we went this past summer but it does have all the other things you mentioned. I was worried about the same thing and though the Lido deck lost some of its appeal because of the cold it was still a fun cruise. We went to the shows and the comedy club after dinner. We danced in the club and the atrium. We stood on lido during the Tracy Arm day (bundled up with our noses running from cold) and watched the amazing scenery go by.

I did miss the whole tropical atmosphere but it was still great. They did have a drink mixing contest and the suess at sea parade too.

I'm glad we went and I think you will be too. ImageUploadedByForums1452175312.725972.jpg.79a23c6553806c6babdead97fd25846b.jpg

There is a naturalist on board who gets on the PA and talks about what wildlife there is to see, if she sees a whale, where it is etc.

Same activities.

I would go on the excursion to the glacier. That was our only cold day--went in May.

I wouldn't book excursions in Ketchican as the town is so full of things to see. In Juneau I went whale watching and 7 minutes into the trip we saw dozens of whales. Beautiful.

It's a fabulous cruise!

I know there amazing views and beautiful scenery, but how is the "cruise" part of it. We love to get involved in the activities, go to the shows, love the punch liner comedy club and the Redfrog Pub. Will we still have all if this to do?

We sailed Legend to Alaska this past July. There were still all the same types of activities listed in the Fun Times as on all of our Caribbean cruises. We played and won trivia, we saw lots of comedians in the Punchliner, we spent hours listening to the live band in the Red Frog Pub every night.

That was truly a wonderful cruise.

Less of a party atmosphere, most people are more focused on the port activities & excursions. There were naturalist lectures also many many announcements over the PA system regarding wildlife sightings, etc. Lovely cruise! Also, many excursions are incredibly pricey. I did the helicopter tour on my first cruise to Alaska. The 2nd, instead in juneau I just took a bus to Mendenhall glacier & visited the ranger center, then took an easy walk along a trail to get closer to the glacier. It cost only $20 or so and I enjoyed it so much more than the helicopter. You don't need to spend an arm and a leg unless you want to - search the boards for recommendations & also TripAdvisor.

Please take a look at my Alaska review below: Sea Trek II.

So it's safe to assume no deck party? [emoji22]

Did you book the whale watch excursus through carnival?

I loved the Alaskan cruise! The highlight was Glacier Bay and the calving of the ice. The whole day at the glacier was beyond amazing. Juneau was wonderful whale watching and don't miss the White Pass train ride and the Klondike Trail in Skagway. There was so much to see and a truly unforgettable cruise. Just wish we had added a little Denali side trip. Oh well, we will just have to go again.

We did an Alaskan cruise tour on Princess: Flew into Fairbanks, down to and into Denali, river float, then train to Anchorage before boarding southbound 7 day cruise to Vancouver.

There really is too much to see, could spend a month or two getting around. Went in August, didn't want to chance weather in either shoulder season (May or September).

Alaska is fantastic, easily the most scenic cruise we've ever been on.

If you get a chance to do the Tracy Arm excursion, do it.

The Piano Bar, Red Frog Pub, Comedy and other activities kept us busy and while most of the cruise is older people we were the young bunch and always met up in the piano bar and stayed up until it closed.

Daytime activities included the normal stuff you see in the caribbean, but with the cover over the Lido deck closed it was always warm in there. It was probably warm enough to swim and we saw children doing that but we never did.

We didn't have very many "sea" days, even though we were on the 8 day with Tracy Arm and Glacier Bay. On the non-docking port days we mostly sat on our balconies and watched the scenery go by.

We are looking at doing that again in 2017.

All of our Alaskan cruises have been on small lines and have stuck to true inside passages. There have been few activities, of course since we have typically stayed docked until well after 9:00 p.m. and have a port daily, except for while in the inside passage, who has time for activities.

I fell in love with Alaska. People rave about other lines but last September on the Legend easily ranks as one of my favourite cruises ever.

The wildlife aspect truly makes it so special and different to any other cruise. It's quite exciting hearing the announcements and running to your balcony or the Lido deck to see. We saw loads of whales from the ship, plus eagles, sea otters and a wolf. (Bring binoculars or you'll regret it!)

Also on excursions in Skagway (the steam train) and Ketchikan (nature reserve) we were lucky enough to see bears.

Want to go back asap!!

With all the nature spotting we still managed to see bands, shows & do trivia.

First of all, we loved our trip to Alaska but we did not go with Carnival, but Princess. We spent three weeks in Alaska with a land/sea tour that was awesome. But in all honesty, the cruise was not our favorite part.

Carnival Legend is our favorite ship, so you are blessed to have her in Alaska.

The cruise part of our trip held the worst weather of the entire trip. It rained sideways for days and it was very cold (we went in July). Weather can be tricky so pack accordingly.

That said, we had great days in ports despite not so perfect weather. We took a flightseeing tour over the Misty Fjords during a rare break in the nasty weather. We whale watched in the rain, kayaked in the rain, enjoyed wildlife in the rain....It was difficult to enjoy the cruising part as well due to the constant fog that accompanied the rain.

We found the life on board was more subdued, with folks spending more time in ports, at wildlife seminars..... I recall the casino was dead at 10:00 pm.

All that sounds rather negative, but we had an awesome trip! Alaska is just awesome and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Just make sure you have a great rain jacket, a variety of clothes (layers) and do as much as you possibly can. Most of the excursions are pricey, so research private companies! Harv and Marv's whale watching tour was awesome. (Juneau)

Have a great cruise

It is a different cruise experience and you have to make trade offs. No palm trees and white sand for beautiful mountains, waterfalls and glaziers. The only time it was really cool was when we were sailing. While in port it was quit comfortable even warm. All the onboard games and entertainment was the same. We had a great time.

It wasn't all sedate and quiet. On the first Alaska cruise I took, it was beginning of the season early May. We had a day in Glacier Bay and it was COLD. Teenage girls out on deck in the hot tub in bikinis, standing up laughing & dancing around. I would have frozen. Was cold bundled up in a down coat, ski pants & boots.

What about a deck party?
