Hello!

 

My friend travelled with RCI years ago and said that back then, an itinerary of the next day would be put in your cabin so you can see exactly whats happening the following day. Is this still happening? If so, is it just about the ship or port information too?

Yes, all that info is in the daily Compass which will be left in your cabin every night.

There is a separate handout on the ports that will arrive the night before as well. It generally includes a shopping guide and a couple of excursions that they are trying to sell.

You should research the ports ahead of time and also consult with your fellow cruisers on the roll-call thread. Don't rely on the sales pitches (with a bit of info) that will come to your cabin.

I have done this. And booked the excursion we want. But on some ports we have a few options so will decide as we go.
