Car seats with a 3 year old?

What is the policy with carseats? We are travelling from the UK to Miami and going on a western carribean cruise. We wont be driving long distances but will be doing a few trips and excursions?

I wonder if we need to bring one with us or if we can get a travel one as its so big and bulky to carry around but obviously we want our son to travel safely!

If you use ship's excursions, you will be on a bus, with no way to attach a seat. A guidebook will tell you where public buses are available.

 

If you plan on extensive touring via car or cab, then a smaller seat may be worth it to you.

That's a big change in advice for you to give CB. I must have seen you consistently answer any car seat question this way:

Your kids will survive. No worries! We grew up without seat belts OR car seats.

 

Did you finally accept the fact that the laws of physics aren't suspended while you are on vacation?

Laws of physics vs. calculated risks - we've taken kids in taxis without car seats a few times (NYC, DC, Chicago).

Keep in mind that parents are required to provide and install car seats in taxis in Florida (if you plan to use a taxi). Also, we have been on multiple excursions (through the cruise line and private companies) that are NOT on large buses. Some use taxis or vans, etc., which would allow for car seats. Probably best to research the specific ports and excursions.
