Carnival changed my cabin

Several months ago we booked 2 cabins side by side on the Vista sailing in July, one for both of us and one for our Daughter and 2 grandchildren one of which who is only 3. As her Husband is unable to come it was imperative that we were next door to make it easier to help with the youngest who can be a bit if a handful at times. We received an email from Carnival today stating that they had changed just our cabin to the the other end of the ship, contacted our TA to say this wasn't acceptable. Arrived home later to a message informing us they have put us together again but in doing so not only have they put us on a lower deck but have also given us a lower grade balcony cabin. It will be our very first time with Carnival and to say I'm not impressed is an understatement.

I hope this isn't a common thing ! I've book interconnecting cabins on the Vista in July for myself my husband and two teenagers ! Let me know how you get on sorting it out ! They should be upgrading you .... Not downgrading ! I'd be after onboard spend or other perk to compensate !

Were they handicapped accessable rooms? If so I heard they can bump you if you are not in need of them.

I hope you stay on them and get it figured out. Enjoy your cruise.

No just normal balcony cabins so really don't understand why they need to change us, have never had this happen before so am at a loss.

There are threads on the Vista board of rooms being changed without asking. And they weren't handicap or less booked in a triple or quad. But those stories were for better or at least equal. Not sure what's up with this situation.

I'm not picky about alot but I am extremely picky over cabin choice. I would be totally ticked off.

Could the cabin you booked have been a triple or quad? They may have needed it for a triple/quad booking. I know since the original cabin layout came out there have been some changes to add more HC cabins.

I still think it would be nice if they would let you know first and then give you a choice of where you wanted to be moved to, especially if traveling with family.

Unless you were originally booked in an accessible cabin (wheelchair cabin), this is not normal business on Carnival. It sounds like your travel agent agreed to something on your behalf that is not actually acceptable to you. I'd get with that travel agent and let them know that. And for the rest of us, this is a valuable lesson of why it's not a good idea to book with a travel agent....book directly with Carnival instead.

That being said, Carnival's policy is if you are booked in an accessible cabin and the passengers in that cabin are not disabled, you (or your travel agent) are told at time of booking you could be moved if a handicapped passenger later needs that cabin. If that occurs, Carnival will move you to a cabin that is at least equal value OR HIGHER at no charge.

Sorry this happened to you.

I have booked our cruises thru a TA for 22 years

She has always resolved any issue on our behalf, plus I get a few things (like OBC) that I wouldn't get booking directly with Carnival.

Your TA should be fighting like Mohammed Ali to get your original cabins back for you -- or upgraded ones that are side by side. Anything less is absolutely unacceptable.

Please keep us posted.

Agreed this sound very strange and would also fight to get to the bottom of it.

What was the original cabin #? I'm willing to bet that it was a room that sleeps three or more, and since it's just you and your husband, they moved you to make room for someone that needed a room that sleeps more than just two. So you got moved to a room for two. They are perfectly within their rights to do that.

With that being said, this is why I never let anyone else, even a TA, pick my room. If I do book with a TA I make sure to tell them exactly what room I want, and I find one that only sleeps two. So I know that my husband and I won't get moved.

Anyway, I'm glad that you are back next to each other. As far as being on a lower cabin, it's not that bad at all. My husband and I had a cove on the Dream last fall and it was no big deal to have a cabin on that level. It was actually very convenient for getting on and off the ship. And you feel less movement when you are lower.

Don't let this get to you. Enjoy your cruise and your time with your family!

CCL is within their rights to move you to a lower category cabin? I agree with you about them being in their rights to move you to a cabin that sleeps 2 if you booked a triple or quad but they can't lower your category.

Thank you all for your help over our cabin change, TA finally managed to sort it out for us, it appears one of the balcony cabins we had originally been sold was no longer classed as large enough for a family of 3, so we now have 2 slightly larger cabins plus extra OBC for the inconvenience we have had.

It is always good to continue to push for what you booked, wanted and needed. Others would have accepted the cabin downgrade without pushback. I am happy for your resolution.

Enjoy your trip - I'm really excited ! There are lots of adverts on now as.Vista launches on May 1st ! I watch the holiday and cruise channel and one of the presenters is going on the Vista in May - so we will see the first live pictures instead of just CGI . Exciting times !

I discovered they did this to me earlier this week.

I had booked my favorite interior on deck 6 midship for the Bloggers cruise on 2/20. Several months later I decided to use a free casino offer and make it a B2B for the 2/13 sailing. I wasn't able to book the same cabin but I booked one close by so I would have the same cabin steward making the move easier.

My printer had been down for about a month and when I got it fixed and went to print my cruise docs they changed both bookings to an interior on deck 8 a truly horrible location. On the Freedom this cabin was located under the galley and I could just imagine how noisy it would be starting early in the morning and for the rest of the day.

I called my excellent PVP and she hadn't been notified either. This really surprised me because I'm Diamond and nobody but the Diamond desk people or your PVP are suppose to make changes to our bookings.

I'm sure they thought that I would prefer to be in the same cabin for both weeks, but they should have asked because I would never choose a cabin anywhere on deck 8.

The only remedy was to offer to move me, but they only had 1 interior on deck 1 and then I would have to move to deck 2 for the 2nd week. I decided that I would rather take earplugs and agreed to stay on deck 8. I told her this had happened once before and I didn't find out about it until I got to the pier. It was really a hassle because my luggage tags had my original cabin on them. The only thing good about that time was that I was upgraded to a balcony on deck 10.

So, to get to my point. My PVP called back again after she had another conversation with someone and they ended up giving me a free upgrade to the same cabin for both weeks but a balcony on deck 6.

It really does help to not only have a great PVP, but to check your booking frequently.
