Qs re Promotion-$25 deposit & $150 OBC PP

I wasn't actively looking to book for 2017 yet, but received email from Celebrity as to a promo featuring $25 deposit.

We've only sailed once on Celebrity, enjoyed it immensely, including the 'free' drink package on the Summit.

I'm quite confused as to the rules/regs with this sort of promo, hoping for clarification for a few things I couldn't find on their website.

1) Is this a cancellable booking? Would it be standard penalties or does the lower DP change things?

2) If opting for the $150 pp credit, can it be used for excursions, casino or tips? Last trip I used TA promo for specialty dining & shopping as gratuties were included in my booking.

3) Can military/senior/resident rates be combined with sort of promo?

4) With just one sailing, would there be any 1 category upgrades available to me in general, and secifically with this sailing?

5) If a better rate comes out before now & the sailing, can I flip it? Assume the 2 perks I picked would then be subject to current offering.

Thanks in advance:)

1) Yes it can be cancelled but if in the penalty period normal cancellation rates would apply.

2) On board credit can be used for anything purchased on the ship, including daily gratuities.

3) If m/r/s rates become available you could switch the booking if before final payment. You would lose the $150 on board credit or any other perk you picked when booking.

4) If you joined the Captains club one cat upgrade would be applicable except for C1 and suites.

5) Yes if before final payment. You may lose perks.

Generally speaking, the military/senior/resident rates are there to give you the perception that they give special rates to these people. In reality, there is almost never a time that these rates beat standard promotions. Please note I said almost. I'm sure there have been some rare exceptions but not once in my experience.

My perception is that that these special rates are offered to stimulate sales in particular targeted categories. Agree they are not necessarily advantageous but could be if not interested in a drinks package, for example. And yes, you may get lucky!

I have been looking at a cruise in November 2016 out of Fort Lauderdale for some time. We had not decided yet but were certain of the dates and itinerary and the ship.

Well, the promotion came out recently and the price of the cabins went up a lot...over $300.

Not much of a promotion if you jack up the price that much to compensate for your promotion.

Post #2 summarized it pretty well.... but the promotion for the $25 down payment does not apply for 2017 cruises. I only know that because I made 3 bookings for 2017 when I saw this ... the down payments were a lot more than I thought they would be. All is good though....we'd have to pay it sooner or later anyway. I did get all the other goodies.

Slight clarification...an OBC may not be used to make a deposit on a future cruise booked on-board.

As far as using your OBC in the casino, that's an open question right now and subject to change. If the current "policy" continues, you can get chips or slot machine credits by paying a 5% fee..that is, you can get $100 worth of chips for a $105 charge to your on-board account. It's not clear at this point if that $105 will actually be from your non-refundable Celebrity on-board credit, or if it will be billed to your credit card as a cash advance even though you have an on-board credit from Celebrity. No one knows what's happening in this space right now....different ships are doing different things with the casino and OBC's.

We Have a NJ resident rate for a July 2016 sailing to Bermuda on the summit that is really good.

Booked through a big box TA and started with a 2a veranda for a 2b price because of captains club upgrade. Also got nice obc from TA, but no drinks package / which is fine because we aren't big drinkers.

We just upgraded again because the price of a c3 concierge room is now less than that of the 2b veranda. Again applying the captains club upgrade we got a c2 concierge class room.

I priced out the cost of a c2 on our sailing and we are paying way less than what the cabins are reallybgoing for.

Even without the drink package we are saving a significant amount.

There are occasionally great resident rates. We got a deal with $500 off the best rate otherwise on a cruise out of Long beach some years ago as Arizona residents.

For those in the USA there is no cost to cancel any reservation if done before final payment date. Does not matter what the promotion.

i just checked the fine print, you are correct, only salings thru 2016 for reduced deposit. Now not sure if i want to tie up the deposit quite so early.

New promotion for 2/4-2/8 is offering $25.00 deposits for all sailings including 2017 bookings and offers an extra OBC on top of the current $300.00. A verandah stateroom is $400.00 OBC.

As far as booking in new promotions if pricing is lowered...it is very common for the promotion to be for new bookings only which makes it much harder to get the new pricing or new promos.

Are you sure? I have only found it applicable for sailings through April 2017....but I am off to check again.

My error...the first time offered it didn't include my sail date of March 2017, this offer did include March 2017...so I said including 2017, but you are correct that it is only through April 2017. :)

Yup, unfortunately I missed the $25 deposit for all cruises that my TA had until last Sunday (Jan 31). :(

Just called and got a $850 credit for the deposit I made on our 4/2017 cruise on the Equinox. Somehow also got an extra $100 OBC (now a total of $400) for our 1A room. Made me happy! I wonder how much Zika is playing into some of these promotions?
