How to feed my Hay Day addiction on ship....

Hello all,

Hubby and I are sailing this weekend on the Getaway, and I've been debating whether to get the internet package or not. One reason to do so (besides being able to post photos of the tasty cocktails I'll be drinking) would be so I can keep feeding my chickens and cows on the iPad game, Hay Day. But, many iPad games requires an active internet connection to work, and as I've surfed through these boards, it sounds like Getaway internet is not what one could consider to be 'constant'. I'd hate to fork out money for internet if we can't really use it.

Have any Getaway-ers had good (or bad) experiences with using internet for casual gaming on board?

Thanks all,

Jen

Before you leave home put your iPad in airplane mode and see if your game works. BTW there used to be plenty of bandwidth to play Farmville

BAAHAHAAHAAHAAA!!!! :D:D I can't answer your internet question, but before you go - you should at least opt out of the Derby so you don't get kicked out of your neighborhood while you are away ;) LOL!

I ♥ Hay Day! :)

Thanks, ya'll! Very helpful perspective. I'm afraid the airplane mode doesn't work (a good suggestion all the same), but the opt-out suggestion for Derby is a winner for sure. If anyone does know how 'steady' internet service on the Getaway is, that would be super - just in case I can't quite leave the techno world behind for a week. :p

I'm assuming you are contemplating the unlimited plan? It's pretty expensive. You will put your phone on airplane mode but then turn on wifi. You will then connect to the ships wifi and log in/out when you want to access the Internet. You should not have any problems playing a game while you are logged in.

My wife plays Hay Day.

She takes a break from it whilst we are on cruises. She says that it would be too much hassle to try to play it whilst onboard.

I certainly wouldn't suggest paying the cost of the unlimited internet to play a game. If you just want to be able to post to Facebook then I would pay for a timed package which is quite a lot cheaper.

Even if you get the unlimited package then only one device can be online at a time, which can make being permanently online an issue if you were sharing with your husband.

Just off the Getaway with unlimited internet plan. Very satisfied with speed and being able to play my online games. I liked not having to worry about logging off....

So glad to hear this! There have been so many reports of horrible internet service on Getaway, I was a little concerned. We'll be sailing 2/14, and I purchased an unlimited package to share with my tween dd, who needs to be able to log in and work with google docs for school projects while we are traveling. Plus, she will need to feed her instagram addiction. And I will need to feed my online addictions, as well as keep in touch with family.

While I don't play this game, I am an avid gamer and I play every day for a few hours so I know how you feel. I can't bring my PS4 and game so I'm just going with out for a week. :( and I'll be going without for 2 weeks over the summer :(

Jen, while satellite internet is not the best for any type of fast pace games, it is good enough to go and feed your chickens, pigs, sheep, cows, goats (and dogs, cats, horses, donkeys).
