Airport Questions

We are sailing from Cape Liberty on the Summit this fall, September 18, but are spending three days in Mahatten pre cruise. I am curious if it makes sense to fly into LaGuardia and home from Newark?

Thanks for your assistance.

Maybe, maybe not.

You really have to figure total cost here. And part of it depends on your mobility and ability to manage your luggage. If you do a car service, there will be a cost from LaGuardia to Manhattan, figure $50. There will be a cost from Manhattan to Bayonne, figure $100 for planning. And a cost from Bayonne to EWR, figure $40 or so.

From EWR, there's a cost into Manhattan, which could be close to $100 with a car service, or not. And roughly the same back for the cruise. Bayonne to EWR is a wash.

The real variable is the difference of LGA to Manhattan plus Manhattan to Bayonne versus EWR to Manhattan.

There are public transportation options from EWR that change the calculus pretty dramatically. And it "may" be less expensive to fly into EWR than LGA, depending on the airline.

So, there's no blanket answer to your question. It depends. Largely on the cost of airfare...

Try to fly home from Newark. In terms of arrival, it really makes no difference-- all three airports (EWR, LGA, and JFK) are close and easy. I take the shuttles directly to grand central for about $30 RT, but car service is an option, as are trains and cabs (don't take a cab across state lines)

It is $13 from Newark airport to NY Penn station on the train. There really is no need to mess with car services into the city. This will put you in midtown just south of the Time Square area. (Penn Station sits underneath Madison Square Garden if you want to google earth it). From there you can either walk to your hotel (if close) or grab a cab or subway.

If you are flying United (I see you are in Chicago) then your best flight options (not saying cost, but number of flights) in/out will be in EWR as it is a United hub like ORD is.
