debrouillarde Posted February 1, 2017 #326 Share Posted February 1, 2017 Some roads will be closed for traffic that day which means buses, taxis and etc have to use alternate routes. I'll have to study the route for 2017 to see if we will have any problems getting to our hotel. I looked at the Marathon website and it mentions hundreds of thousands of spectators and that it was one of the major sporting events in Sweden. The race doesn't start until noon so I'm guessing it's going to be crowded morning and afternoon on the 3rd. Thanks for answering my question. Colorfulco2 Posted February 2, 2017 #327 Share Posted February 2, 2017 If I may say so, something isn't right here. When the ship berths at Nynäshamn it arrives at 07.00 and leaves at 19.000 (12 hours). It is only when they berth in Stockholm that you should expect a 07-14 berth time. Such as 2017-05-20 when she is expected to berth at Frihamnen. 2017-05-31 and when she is expected to berth at Stadsgården. That means if you have a berth time from 7 to 14, then your berth location is central Stockholm and not Nynäshamn. Thank you for your reply,it is very confusing, I have called the Princess line, they say Nynashamn, 7 to 14 the website you mentioned said 7 to 14 We are on the arrival date 5/20 into Sweden. So hope we can take the boat over to Vasa.

Deborah The race will circle some of the main parts of the inner city. But streets will be open during the morning until the race starts so if you disembarkation is not to late there should be no problem to get the your hotel or for people going direct to the airport. When the race has started the best way to get around is the Metro. It is true that there will be many spectators, but they will be spread out along the distance. Colorfulco2 Posted February 5, 2017 #331 Share Posted February 5, 2017 Too bad Vasa Museum opens at 10. Our ship gets in at 7 am. Is it worthwhile to try to do Gamla Stan in early morning? Then do Vasa Museum and get back to ship ? Should we do this all by the bus? Or If we leave ship early, take bus to Vasa, tour for about 1.5 hrs, then how is best to get to Gamla Stan and back to the ship? Thank you so much for helping all of us. Desdichado62 Posted February 5, 2017 Author #332 Share Posted February 5, 2017 Gamla Stan or Vasa is your choice. As with Vasa most shops are not open that early in the day though. Bus #76 will take you to both Vasa and the Old Town. From Vasa to Old Town or in the opposite direction, the same bus can be used or you use Djurgårdsfärjan. Bus #76 or taxi are the best was to get back to the ship. More specific info is in the first post.
Desdichado62 Posted February 5, 2017 Author #333 Share Posted February 5, 2017 I mean Gamla Stan or Vasa first is your choice. An advise regarding Vasa is that they have ticket machines at the entrance which you can use instead of queuing for a manned ticket booth.
palermo22 Posted February 5, 2017 #334 Share Posted February 5, 2017 I know that the Arlanda Express is our best bet from the City Center to the airport. We will be disembarking from Viking Sky. I am not sure, price depends on distance and time. Maybe 10 -12 dollars? The option (likely not a true option) walk to Slussen but not really suitable since you have luggage. it is almost 1 km. cost is 3-4 dollars per person. Desdichado62 Posted February 6, 2017 Author #336 Share Posted February 6, 2017 I have received some new (unverified) information about Vasa museum opening hours for those days that there is a cruise ship in port. The information is that the museum might open earlier then advertised when there is one or more cruise ships in port that arrives early. I would assume this applies mainly to May and September when the regular time of opening is at 10.00 and there are ships that arrives at 7 or 8 in the morning. Desdichado62 Posted February 8, 2017 Author #339 Share Posted February 8, 2017 Apparently Vasa only opens earlier if cruise lines or guide companies make special arrangements with Vasa to open earlier.

Desdichado62 Posted February 8, 2017 Author #341 Share Posted February 8, 2017 We are in Stockholm on June 23rd. It seems that this is a national holiday this year. Which sites will be open? Yes it's Midsummer eve. Very very big national holiday. General info for Midsummer is available in part 3 (first page). Vasa, Skansen and the Royal Palace will be open. Most others sites will be closed. Most stores/shops in Old Town will also be closed, not sure about restaurants. Public transport will use a Saturday schedule. Thanks for your help Yes Taxi to the central station and Arlanda Express from there. Arlanda Express also offers discounts for weekends and if you book in advance. https://www.arlandaexpress.com/priser.aspx Taxi cost to Central would be 12-13 US dollars, you can also ask for a fixed price in advance. Tallink's Romantika and Victoria I are very hard to tell apart from that angle, but I think you have it right. Of the Viking Line ferries Gabriella is actually heading out. You can see the trail left by the incoming Amorella to the left of the ship. I think the picture is actually taken slightly closer to Stockholm here: https://www.google.com/maps/@59.3608045,18.3760123,7792m/data=!3m1!1e3 with Kungsborg being the small island in the middle of the photo. I am wondering what the approximate cost of a taxi from the hotel to the port might be? Time will be early afternoon. Many thanks.
