Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted February 14, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2016 Has anyone rented a car and made it to the Lavendar fields and back to Toulon during a day's port stop? One site says it's a 1.5 hour drive each way, but then other sites say 3 hours each way. It took us 1.5 hours by tour bus just to Aix. DH really wants to see the Lavendar fields, but we don't want to risk missing the ship. We don't need to spend a lot of time in the fields. DH really wants to see the Lavendar fields, but we don't want to risk missing the ship. We don't need to spend a lot of time in the fields. The Lavender fields are spread over a relatively large area so it depends on where you want to go...and how nice the lavender is in your particular year. But from Toulon, you are talking about 1 1/2 to 2 hours (or more) to get to the best spots. As to missing the ship, this is up to you. We suggest returning with at least an hour leeway...to allow for getting lost, an accident, road closure, flat tire, etc. Many would suggest focusing on the D942 between Avignon and Carpentras but that is only one of several popular areas. And then there is the question of when you will be in the area, and what is blooming where? For us, this is one more reason we prefer to spend at least a week in the region (with a rental car) as opposed to trying to see everything on a port day. Rare marazul Posted February 14, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 14, 2016 (edited) The best lavender fields are in the Vaucluse, East of Avignon and North of Aix. It does take almost two hours to get there. Prime time is late June and July. http://www.provenceweb.fr/e/mag/terroir/lavande.htm http://www.visit2provence.com/english/destinations/nature/lavender-fields,30.html Edited February 14, 2016 by marazul

Taay Chi Posted February 23, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 23, 2016 Hey The best season to see the lavender fields is the first two weeks of July. It takes 1.5 hour to go and 1.5 hour to come back, and with all the tourists in the area driving and parking are challenging. With my familly we hired a private driver last year, we contacted Nancy who is a local travel adviser and she has organised everything, that way we didn't waste our time and enjoyed the sight seeing. Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted February 28, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted February 28, 2016 Thank you, but Toulon is so much further than Marseilles, so if you kinda felt pressed for time, I think we reallllly would.
