Luggage on Royal Caribbean

I thought I heard on our last crusie you had the option to have your luggage sent to the airport and be checked by RC Does any one if this is true and if there is a charge?

You may be thinking of RC Luggage Valet program. At the end of your cruise you put your luggage outside your stateroom the night before, just like everyone else, except your bags are collected, sent to your airline, and you never see again until your home airport. More info on RC website. There are restrictions - not available on all ships/ports, flight has to be after a certain time, etc. fee is $20 on top of any airline fees that you normally would pay. Believe it is free if staying in a suite.

Carnival also offers this.

So does HAL - Luggage Direct -- certain ports and certain airlines. I think their fee is $19 -- not free for anyone no matter what cabin category you are booked in.

Another benefit is that you also get your airline pre-check-in and boarding pass on the last night of your cruise.. Skipping the lines at the airport is great..

I used this service on RCI. We sailed out of Ft. Lauderdale. Our home airport is in the US. I was with my Mom, who has mobility limitations. It was tremendously helpful not to bother with the bags.

It's a huge benefit if your flight is later and you want to do something before heading to the airport. I thought long and hard about doing it, but in the end, not spending 80 bucks won out for us.
