CnCsMom Posted February 24, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) My only disappointment with this change is that we cruise March 13th and I had been buying gift cards to cover tips, Cheers and other on board spending either through AARP or from the grocery store to get the gas points. Now I'll have to buy it ahead of time or it's going to cost an additional $46 since they don't accept gift cards for purchase ahead of time. Also, if you wanted to use your OBC for the program it's going to cost you more. Edited February 24, 2016 by CnCsMom add line about OBC
croozlady Posted February 24, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2016 Wow, that stinks! I just booked 2 cabins on Saturday and if I knew about this I would have booked the guys together in 1 cabin so they could get this! They would prefer the nicer wines... I wonder if Carnival would let me switch people around due to this change. We are booked Early Saver...

Luke Saint Joe Posted February 24, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 24, 2016 I'm curious about the 15 drinks per day max. This is not mentioned in John Heald's statement. And, I'd imagine, none of the other beverages count towards the 15 alcoholic beverages per day.
kbh2 Posted February 24, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 24, 2016 This is a great addition to the Cheers program. I wonder too if there will still be a 15 a day limit?

Rare LMaxwell Posted February 24, 2016 #18 Share Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) More options = more better. Carnival will make more money because this likely will cause more people to buy Cheers, but also since it is being spread among lower cost soft drinks, could decrease expenses for Carnival. They'll likely sell more soda and Rockstar compared to the higher end specialty liquors. Good move. Everyone wins. ATL_Miami_Cruiser Posted February 24, 2016 #20 Share Posted February 24, 2016 Thanks for posting The new program is an improvement over the old, but there's still need for changes such as requiring everyone over 21 to purchase it and they still need a tiered option for less drinks. I did it once and found it not to be worth it. Too much pressure to drink more to break even. I prefer local beers and drinks in port so that further dilutes the value of Cheers. Trying to call Carnival right now to see if you can apply gift card through the phone. Unusual high call volume. Waiting on call back!

Cpw221 Posted February 24, 2016 #24 Share Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) I know I'm in good company when I say I'd love it if Carnival would offer a middle package for those of us that aren't big drinkers! The enhanced Cheers program still won't make sense for us. On our cruise last week, we only spent about $175 total for drinks. The bottomless bubbles package and about 7 virgin frozen drinks for DH, as he is a transplant receipient and cannot drink any alcohol, and for me, only 5 alcoholic drinks total, and a handful of frozen virgin drinks. Maybe a package that includes everything non-alcoholic, and a package for us lightweight drinkers? :o Btw, I haven't seen this mentioned on cc, nor on any of the online images of the drink menus, but the drink prices have gone up! For the virgin drinks, the new price is $5.25 plus gratuity, and for the alcoholic frozen drinks, the price has increased to $8.25 plus gratuity. I didn't notice the price of any other drinks, since we only bought the previously mentioned. Has anyone else seen this? Maybe they were testing it out last week? GApharmcruiser Posted February 24, 2016 #25 Share Posted February 24, 2016 • All spirits, including cocktails, cognacs, whiskies, and other spirits, as well as beer and glasses of wine, costing less than $50 per serving (previously only drinks costing less than $10 per serving were included in the program). Just out of curiosity, what drinks are $30-$50 per serving?! More-so on the 40-50 side... Also we pre-purchased Cheers for our Conquest Cruise on March 27th. Do we automatically change to this? Couldn't find that answer anywhere.
