awinte2 Posted February 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2016 Well my husband and I have completed our 2 -7 day cruises and this is our comparison. Please keep in mind this is our opinion only. First cruise on the Getaway and then right onto the Regal. Embarktion was good on both ships on board by noon. First impression of Getaway. Lovely ship . Luggage arrival not until 5:00 We ate our dinners in dining room of Getaway only. Taste or Savour. Line up was always long for Tropicana. We do not waste the extra money for the alternative restaurants any more. Food was very good and service was very good. Only negative on dining rooms they have to swipe your card and then look at computer to assign seats. Was a long process and took a long time to be seated. Buffet for breakfast was another story. It was crazy busy. Try to balance your food , coffee and juice and then find a seat. It was maddening and only went to buffet when we had shore excursions other than that we went to dining room. Entertainment was good in theatre. In atrium area it was always loud and very crowded. Age group on this ship was varied. Young couples with children, 30's, 40's 50's and up. Kids had there own pool area with slides. Was good program for them. There were 4000 people on this ship and it was very difficult to find a area that was not crowded. For the casino people the Getaway had a much better layout than the Regal. The Regal was jammed way to tight and was very uncomfortable. First impression of the Regal. A beautiful ship. It was just that much more than the Getaway. Just the fit and finish was that much more. There were 3600 passengers and you felt crowded in some areas but you could always seem to find a quieter area you just had to look for it. There were a lot less children and age group was a little older. What Princess does right is in the buffet at breakfast. They have people who bring your coffee , juice and water to your table and you always seemed able to find a seat. I did find the buffet a little confusing to find things. We ate in traditional dining for the first time and enjoyed it. We had a table for 2 and ate at 5:30. Loved this as no line ups waiting to get in. the service in the dining rooms was fantastic and the food just that much better than the Getaway. There were 2 formal nights on the Regal and the people love to dress for the events moreso than the Getaway. We are not the totally formal people anymore but we dressed nice and enjoyed the special menus on formal night. We did not go to any of the specialty restaurants. Have done that before with Princess but not anymore. I am trying not to keep this too long so to summarize we enjoyed the Getaway but preferred the Regal. We will probably not go on either of these ships again as there are just too many people when they are full up.
SuiteTraveler Posted February 25, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2016 Did you go to the spas on both ships? How did they compare? I've been on Getaway and the spa thermal area is awesome and a great place to get away from crowds. I have not been on Regal or Royal but am interested - the spa looks small in comparison in the thermal area, but it is also dark and more sophisticated looking. The Getaway thermal is much better than Regal in my opinion, Getaway with the windows all around compared to Regal with no windows, Regal seemed quite a bit smaller and the stone loungers are not heated. That was my impression from the photos that Regal/Royal would not be quite as nice as Getaway/Breakaway. Thanks for posting.
