so, I have a 3:50 notstop flight out of Tampa coming home...arriving at 6

I can change to 1:15 arriving at home at 5 with a short layover...

No change in cost...

it's been awhile since I cruised out of Tampa... how long is the drive to the airport on debarkation day?

Should I stay safe with the later flight in case of fog delays.. which i have been reading a lot about/

dont really want to sit in the airport for 5 hours... but also don't want to miss an earlier flight... due to any delays...

Any input from recent cruisers from the Tampa port would be appreciated:)

thanks!

Its under 30 minutes drive time so 1:15 is very easy.

However the port of Tampa seems to have a lot of delays in

the winter due to fog

I would keep the later time just to have more flexibility.

Your only gaining a hour

just my 2 cents

Absent extraordinary circumstances, 1:15 would be easy to make. I work near the airport, and can be in my office by 9:30 after departing the ship.

But fog could keep you out in Tampa Bay, in which case you might not make either flight.

If it ever me, I would stay with the current flight and enjoy Tampa for most of the day.

The Florida Aquarium is right next door to the port. You could easily spend three hours there. There are nice places to eat in downtown and near the airport. We have a great mall (International Plaza) almost next door to the airport.

Let me second Lazydayz suggestions. Stay with the later flight and visit the Aquarium. We really enjoyed the place. You won't need any transportation to get there as it's right next door. You'll walk farther through the terminal building, than getting to the door of the Aquarium. And no need to worry about your luggage, as there is a place that will watch your luggage just to the left as you exit the terminal (attached to the terminal building). For a small fee of course.

  • 4 months later...

We're on the Oosterdam arriving into Tampa from Europe on Nov 18, 7AM. HAL offers flights departing as early as 11:30AM. We're booking our own. Is 11:55AM too early? Later options don't work very well for us.

Are there any known issues with Coast Guard clearance of ships at Tampa?

(Sometimes here in San Francisco they can be very slow.)

Reading this thread, it looks like fog is sometimes a problem. Very often?

If any East Coasters have insight, I'd really appreciate hearing.

TYIA,

I would normally not have a problem with a noon flight, but when the ship returns from Europe there can be many delays. If it was me, I'd feel better with a later flight.
