Rare Smmessineo Posted March 4, 2016 Author #51 Share Posted March 4, 2016 Update from OP. I spent yesterday ill with Norovirus. Filled out CDC form in medical office. Given anti nausea injection and pills, plus immodium. Quarantined to room. I have to go back to office today and should be cleared to roam the ship. Not fun, but thankfully it seems to have passed quickly.
Rare Smmessineo Posted March 4, 2016 Author #52 Share Posted March 4, 2016 This was a fantastic cruise. Illness can occur anywhere you go . I don't think the Sunshine is cursed!
Je Souhaite Posted March 4, 2016 #53 Share Posted March 4, 2016 I'll be on this ship the last week of April. Does the infected ships/staff generally have a cycle that anyone has noticed? Like a cold takes a week or two to clear up? I know I was sick a couple weeks ago but still have a slight cough that's starting to go away. It's cycled thru most of the staff where I work. Just curious if it may end up doing something similar on a ship. It should be long gone by then.
sjn911 Posted March 4, 2016 #54 Share Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) I am a huge fan of something I learned about a few years ago. Oil of Oregano for fighting virus and bacterial things. My siblings hate taste and it staying with you. Yes drink in a little water or chase with water...it is strong...I don't care...it is a miracle worker for me. That and zinc lozenges with C and Echenecia. (sp) Ditto hand washing and using paper towels afterwords to turn off faucet and exit door..all bathrooms should have a basket to use on exit for that... Good idea on airplane surfaces and room surfaces...it helps one feel a little better..but still wash before touching face and eyes and ice or eating in cabin... Not all people get it...I never got sick when mom passed and in a germ hospital...slept in waiting room for ICU a lot...took home breaks and shared the burden but items above were my savior...happy sails...the ships will be cleaned well after each outbreak. I totally forgot about the oregano:eek: Has anyone used colloidal silver? I never have, but isn't it supposed to latch onto bacteria and viruses to flush them out of your system? I have seen people overdo that and turn blue and it does not go back.....I think with all things get your health professional in on it...but I know it is a major help with many things if monitored. I feel safer with concentrate of regular herbs etc. we eat. Edited March 4, 2016 by sjn911
CocoCandy Posted March 4, 2016 #57 Share Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) So what did you do for the rwcirculated air you are breathing the while flight? Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk The recirculated air is something I obviously can't control. However, I never touch my mouth, nose, eyes while out anywhere unless I absolutely have to and only then if I have a tissue as a barrier. I cringe when I see people rubbing their eyes out in public or touching their mouth/ nose with hands that have obviously touched carts, door handles, common surfaces etc. Then people can't figure where they got a cold or whatever... from their germy hands and fingers. teaach Posted March 4, 2016 #58 Share Posted March 4, 2016 I got the runs and stomach pains on the ship many years ago. Took A__b_____, 3 doses and everything was fine in about 12 hours. Didn't mind the nausea and stomach aches as I won $1500 in the casino in about one hour of slots. I love, love cruising!

I play the slots too, and usually put a few drops of sanitizer on my fingers that will be hitting to slot buttons. I'm amazed that the sanitizer dispensers are not available in the casinos. I'll also wash my hands thoroughly after playing the slots and before going elsewhere on the ship.
Barbiegator Posted March 4, 2016 #60 Share Posted March 4, 2016 The best time to cruise as the ship will be thoroughly cleaned after the outbreak. Sometimes boarding is delayed a little as time consuming .
RLKELK Posted March 7, 2016 #61 Share Posted March 7, 2016 Hello out there. I was unlucky to suffer the Norovirus starting on the last day of the 13 day Journeys cruise, Feb. 21-March 5. I would not wish the virus on my worst enemy. I was one of the confirmed 178 cases reported. I am sure that there were more. Some passengers failed to report. Roger and I have cruised many times and only one other time did I get sick. Nothing compares to the wrath of Norovirus. I had to be taken off the ship in a wheelchair. Others during the cruise were taken by ambulance to the hospital. Please remember to wash, wash, wash your hands. Be extra vigilant. Remember that it will hit you when you least expect it. Guest Posted March 7, 2016 #62 Share Posted March 7, 2016 Thank god we didn't get it.Prayers for you who did.I also think it happened because the people on the cruise were so old.Average person was around 75.
mayfly511 Posted March 7, 2016 #63 Share Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) yes the noro virus is bad. I was one of the many persons that was affected. I made 4-5 trips to the medical center for treatment over the last 3 days of the cruise for medication and IV fluid for dehydration . The last time I went down they kept me until the end of the last day of the cruise and then sent me to the hospital by ambulance upon debarkation. I am still sick and it has been 6 days. Having spent that much time in the medical center I can tell you (as a health care professional) that I was not impressed with the cleaning techniques that I observed by some of the housekeeping staff- enough said Edited March 7, 2016 by mayfly511

Changing the eating plan making me sick and having to stay an extra day. These all except for one mean night nurse , were seriously unknowing or overworked people...gave me my shot in recovery and missed the lid to plug and they want ypui out of recovery as soon as you talk....or that was it then. This is the one thing everywhere that has to get better at due to our more populated and travelling world. So sorry you had a sick one...many more well ones to your future...you have earned them...glad you are home to get better. Get well soon!!
