Bingo Questions

Reviewing recent patters, it seems like Princess is following a policy of one Bingo round a day on sea days; is that fleet wide policy? Also, some cruise lines are now use electronic counters rather than ink daubers. Is also true for Princess?

On sea days there was always a morning session and an afternoon session on our 2015 cruises. Don't know about fleet wide, but that has always been the schedule I've experienced. No electronic devices on Princess, and I'm personally happy about that! You can buy a Princess cruise ship themed dauber for like $1.50. I collect them on every cruise to use at home. Off topic, but still somewhat on subject...

 

Apparently between the last time we sailed Princess and our most recent sailing a few weeks ago, they changed the format of BINGO on board. It is now run similar to other contemporary lines.

 

While they have increased the blackout BINGO jackpot to $5k(in 50 #s or less), no longer do they have a Progressive Jackpot that must be won by someone before the end of the cruise(often won during the last session).

 

As such, we will no longer take part in BINGO on Princess, and I would suggest that if one were to do so, it is only worth playing on small ships(which Princess has plans to abandon as well) -- as the odds of winning vs. prize payouts ratio is absolutely horrible otherwise.

That's what we found too. Someone playing asked about it, and tried to argue that the Patter was unclear, to no avail.

 

There was a woman playing ten cards at the final game - she didn't win anything.

After reading the above posts I told the Wife about the new Bingo program on Princess.

 

She stated we can also find some thing else to do.

 

Like going to the Casino to improve our chances of winning, Right? :D

I just got off the Island and there was 1 bingo session each sea day except the last. On the last sea day there were 2. The jackpot did go in the last session. They called numbers until it went. The amount was $2900.00.

Bingo format:

 

On the Grand at Christmas is was the 'new format'. The cruise (same ship) after that is was the 'jackpot' format.

 

CB Princess in February: 'jackpot format'.

 

2 bingos a day on sea days on both ships. On CB, if we were early leaving a port they would stick another in at 4 or 4:30PM. One card, one game. $10 a card.

On our recent Royal cruise, they added a new bingo game that I had not seen before. The last sea day the morning session was a single game, i.e. a single bingo sheet, that was a blackout game for a free 7 day cruise for two. Balls were called until someone won.

 

The afternoon bingo on the last sea day was the standard 4-game setup with the final game being a blackout for the progressive jackpot.

On the Emerald, they still offered the progressive jackpot. I remember the days of the grand prize being a cruise and think it'd be awesome to give 1 away with an even playing field of everyone having just 1 card! I hope they do that on our Royal cruise this summer. The cash progressive is fun, too, as long as they continue to guarantee a winner by the end of the cruise. To take that away would provide a very anticlimactic ending, and they'd ultimately lose business. It was standing room only at the final session worth over $3,000 on the Christmas cruise! Bingo is one of my fav cruise activities, so I hope they don't turn it into a bongo! [emoji5]

There is only one certainty about BINGO. The cruise lines now run the game as another onboard profit center, and they are never disappointed. As to Progressive Jackpots, they are one of the big marketing cons of the gambling industry. The high numbers attract folks who pay little attention to the lousy odds. But such is the life of gamblers (which the gambling industry now markets as "Gaming").

It deserves noting that I've personally been a winner of one of the progressive BINGO jackpots a few sailings back. $1700 was nothing to sniff at;).

 

The DW and I also did extremely well playing every session on a separate small-ship sailing before the above win. IIRC, Together we won/or shared a total of 3 or 4 individual games at around $600 total winnings. The odds were more favorable with smaller groups playing each session.

 

We've also been one # off from winning the progressive jackpot one other sailing as well.

 

Needless to state, we are still well ahead in our win/to donate ratio playing BINGO on Princess.

 

As for our recent Ruby sailing, perhaps the change to a different format (that no longer includes the progressive jackpot) is currently being tried on only a few ships(?) and hasn't become a fleetwide changeover...yet.
