Slight Gadtro Outbreak on Riviera

We also boarded Riviera today and as eroller said, everything appears fine. We spoke to our cabin attendant about the recent events, and she told us something interesting about last week's cases of gastro. She said on embarkation day, someone was diagnosed at 6 PM. That means they didn't get it on Riviera!

But isn't that interesting. This person signed the paper saying there were no problems and then immediately went to see the doctor ... Wow, that's chutzpah!

To quote Lyn, "and that's how it all starts".

Had the ship left yet at 6pm? If not, he/she should have been escorted off ... well, maybe that's more difficult than I think. But if it IS, why do they ask the questions to being with?

Breakfast served promptly at 10:30am by our wonderful butler Binoy. So civilized and I must say the pancakes are superb! Usually they are dry or even crusty on cruise ships, especially if sitting under a heat lamp. Not here!

When we left yesterday I asked how many people on that cruise and it was around 1100. All was pretty normal but they were sanitizing the tables in buffet.

almost seems like out of force of habit.

The farewell show had a lot of happy faces as the crew marched out of the theater.

If you didn't read about problems here you would never know it on board.

It was a great cruise on Riviera.

Honduras today and all remains well on RIVIERA. Headed to a waterfall today.

There is one strange thing I've never seen before. The cabin next to us which is occupied, keeps getting a red security tape across the door and frame daily. It's placed so that the tape will be broken if the door is opened. They pull the old tape off so you can see the remnants on the door from about 10 different tape pieces now. Very odd. Do they do this when someone is under quarantine, basically keeping the occupants hostage? I don't know but I've never seen such a thing on any cruise line. I'll probably ask my butler about it next time I see him but I doubt he can be truthful about it

Here is a quick pic I snapped. So odd. I've heard the occupants on their balcony and I'm pretty sure they leave the cabin because they get dining reservation cards in their slot every day. I'm definitely intrigued.

This is great news! Thanks for the update. I hope it stays this way for 4 more days till we board.

I think you will be in great shape! Everything onboard is business as usual and I don't see any signs of excessive cleaning, wet walls and fabrics, or anything like that. Just a great looking ship offering a wonderful experience.

Maybe it is the occupants putting the tape on when they leave ???

Maybe they are paranoid about people being in the cabin when they are not

I would not think if they were quarantined they would be allowed to go out for dinner

Hope you find the answer from the butler or room steward

What a mess on the door though

Very strange. Would love to know the answer. Have not seen anything like it in all our cruises, even the 2/12 cruise that came back early. No tape on any doors and we know that plenty of people were sick.

Like RJB, we never saw any tape like that on Oceania. We have seen tape like that on other cruiselines. There is often an accompanying security guard outside the door. Usually, these people have been rowdy, or caught with drugs. They are kept under guard until the next port of call and then put off.

Speaking of odd things on the door. I have been meaning to ask about this, though I may have mentioned it in an earlier thread. When we arrived on the Riviera on the 2/12 cruise, a few of the stateroom doors, that we could see, had a sign stuck in the mail slot that said "Evacuated". This was early on, before we were allowed in the rooms. Ours was one of these staterooms. We asked an attendant, and he said something about the room being sanitized. Has anyone else seen these signs before and what do they mean?

Maybe they were cabins of the sick people & they want to make sure they were cleaned by the hazmat team

That's what we were thinking, but also thought it could just be a sign to let the attendants know that the stateroom was free of occupants and they could clean. Where there were no signs, those staterooms had already been cleaned by the time we took a look down the hall.

I have to say when we heard about the Noro, and then saw the signs, our first thought was that the occupants of that stateroom had been EVACUATED for an emergency.

Saw some of the same signs in the stateroom doors during our muster drill. Could be they just needed to know these rooms were empty. Can not be sure either way.
