Carnival to Bermuda

Recommended Posts

I've read that NCL casinos open at 9PM while in Bermuda. Supposedly, NCL paid a tax or fee to the government giving it permission to do so.

I don't know about Carnival and Bermuda, but on my recent Glory Journeys B2B cruises the casino was open during several of the port stops. Found it odd returning from an excursion to see patrons sitting at the slots and table games.

Each cruise ship has to pay for a license to keep the casino open in Bermuda. My guess since the Carnival trip is just a single trip, that they will not pay for the license, as opposed to the ships doing weekly trips. Again, this is just a guess.

Agreed. Since NCL makes weekly runs to Bermuda with the Dawn and Breakaway, it is worth it to them to pay the "fee". When Carnival sailed to Bermuda last year, the casino was not open. FWIW, RCCL does not pay the "fee" either and their casinos are not open.

If you are talking Ecstasy, it might be too small to warrant paying for a license.

Celebrity Summit the casino was opened in Bermuda from 9:00 PM to 5:00

Yeah, I think its only the ships that have the regular run that it makes sense to buy the license. Since Celebrity and NCL are there weekly, it makes sense for them. The ships that just stop there on occasion, it doesn't make sense to pay the fee. I understand RCL will be there regularly this summer with Anthem. If that is the case, I expect they will pay the fee.

Also, remember the fee is per ship, not per line. So if NCL has to last minute substitute the Dawn for another ship for one week (highly unlikely, but never say never), they probably will not pay for the license for that one week.

We just did Bermuda on the Pride in October--we were there for one night and Splendor was there for a few at the same time. Yes, they kept the casinos opened, but they had to have a special Bermudan casino permit and it was on display. I can't speak for other points, but it is regularly pointed out (usually when they move the ship from Baltimore) that for CCL, Baltimore based ships have the highest spending revenues of all the homeports. I can't imagine they'd want to lose that revenue.

Bermudan officials come and go from the ship as they please.

I Googled Casinos in Bermuda a few months ago and yes, they did recently have an agreement to let the ship's casino open at 9:00 pm the days they are in port. Their reasoning was that most people are not going to be out and about in port after 9:00 pm.

Had more to do with NCL, Royal/ Celebrity putting pressure on the Bermudian government to legalize casino gambling onboard.
