China Cruise and Land Tour/River Cruise

Has anyone taken a Princess China/Asian cruise and added the land tour which also includes a few days on a river cruise? If so, what were your thoughts? Can you compare the land portion to the popular river cruise companies? We have never done a river cruise and were trying to link up a Princess cruise with another company's river cruise, but the dates aren't working out. Would love to hear your comments if you've done this.

Thank you,

Alice

Have not done this with Princess. We did do a Viking River Cruise with a land portion that was really hard to beat. The river portion got a bit tedious. But, Viking has shortened that part of the voyage. You couldn't have asked for better service or accommodations. Viking has newer boats on the Yangtze with larger staterooms than when we went.

I've taken the Viking "Cultural Delights" river cruise from Shanghai to Beijing. Great trip. Didn't combine it with a Princess cruise. A couple of years ago, several friends took a Viking river cruise from Shanghai to Beijing and combined it with the Diamond's repositioning cruise from Beijing to Whittier. I joined them on the Diamond after doing the Princess 3-day pre-cruise tour in Beijing. If I were to compare the two (Viking vs. Princess) based on the 3-day Beijing tour, I thought Viking was a bit better. They were better organized, went to better restaurants and their buses weren't as full. One thing that bothered me about the Princess tour is that there was a woman on our bus who had difficulty walking distances. Princess changed the restaurant where we were having lunch and she was unable to make it to the restaurant and the Princess rep just told her to sit somewhere and wait for us.

We had 5 days on the Yangtze with Viking and enjoyed every day of it as each day was a different experience. Sorry to hear that they have shorted the experience.
