rsail203 Posted March 22, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2016 We'll be booking an A1 cabin as its cheaper on our particular cruise. However we prefer a large table with the same tablemates (also the Blu menu is not our favorite). Will we have any problem switching?
IsanTom Posted March 22, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 22, 2016 You shouldn't have a problem, but as soon as you get aboard go and look into the change in dining preferences!
4774Papa Posted March 22, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 22, 2016 Warning, we loved traditional dining, but had two cruises in a row where the tablemates were not up to speed. One problem with traditional dining today is that many people book it and don't show up. We had tables for 12 on one cruise and another for 8, with only 6 people showing up for each. We have given up on traditional and now go select dining. We loved our one aqua cruise, dining in BLU. We usually were seated with one other couple, although occasionally we were at a table for more. Agree that the Blu menu was not really what we enjoy. But others love it. To each his own.
phoenix_dream Posted March 22, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 22, 2016 Keep in mind, though, that it may not be a guarantee. For example, on my April 9 cruise on Summit, the ship is fully booked. It does not even show up on the Celebrity website anymore when searching. Chances are, it would be more difficult to switch on a fully booked cruise. You may be able to be put in Select on some nights if regular MDR is fully booked. Or they may be able to squeeze you in the MDR on some nights based on other cruisers going to Specialty restaurants and so on. But on a cruise like this, I would not expect to be able to switch to the MDR with the same table every night.

To each his own. Count me in as well. On our first Celebrity cruise we gave Blu a try, but after 2 horrible experiences with service, we switched and it was not a problem. cruiserone Posted March 23, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 23, 2016 Think you are making a mistake. Staff in BLU on the Summit is wonderful! And if you want you can order from the main dining room menu. Don't think any of that has changed since our trip last year on her. But like other posters said if the ship is fully booked you may get squeezed in, or not. I also agree with the poster that said people are not showing up at tables. We were on the Constellation a few years ago and had a table for 10. They all showed up the first night, the second night two less and by third night we were the only couple (was it our deodorant?) We then got a table for two in the upstairs dining room and watched that table was empty the whole week. Happy Sailing.
rsail203 Posted March 23, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted March 23, 2016 Thank you to everyone for your replies. Cruiserone-we've been assigned to early traditional on 25 different cruises and our results have been different than yours. We always ask for large tables and are usually assigned anywhere from 6 to 10 person tables. Only once were we down to 4 people at our table and that was only one night. All other nights there was a minimum of 6 people. We never ended up alone at a table. I guess we've been lucky, but we'll continue to take our chances and always take early traditional. We've met many nice people at these dinners and continue to cruise with some. Rich
