pukekolive Posted March 31, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2016 Hi there, we have just arrived home from our Empires of the Mediterranean, Venice to Istanbul cruise and in our opinion unless you want to buy wines/ liquors other than the included alcoholic drinks at lunch and dinner, you will not need the beverage package. We are a couple and enjoyed the 'house' wines and beers plus purchased a few cocktails and craft beers after dinner in the lounges/ bars at reasonable cost and our on-board spend was less than US$200 at the end of the cruise (this covered both of us). The Silver Spirits Package is US$269 per person minimum for a 9 night cruise and it does not include drinks in the Torshaven Lounge which is the most popular evening venue and is used for most of the Shows by the Viking Entertainers. Specialist Wines were also available in Manfredi's Restaurant and the Chef's Table but I am not sure if these are covered by the Package either. Please review your requirements over and above the house offering as we found this to be perfectly acceptable with the addition, as we already said, of a few more drinks at a cost of a lot less than paying for the beverage package for each of us. CelticMutt Posted August 1, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 1, 2016 I talked to Viking customer service today and Silver Package can be used in the Torshavn Lounge. it's just that there are a greater number of premium drinks offered there that price out above the $9 limit. All "regular" drinks below $9 can be ordered using the Silver Package. Slainte! Bill

Rare Azulann Posted August 21, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 21, 2016 I would love to hear from someone who has purchased the Silver Spirit beverage package too ,for their feedback. I have seen the bar menu from another thread. I like to have a martini of some kind before dinner, choices of wine at dinner, after dinner drink. On sea days , I would have a wine or a G&T etc during the afternoon. Also love Cava, or other sparkling wine by the glass for dinner sometimes. I know there is another thread ,currently, that is very speciifc about what is included in the daily pour at lunch and dinner time, including what is available from the coffee, drink stations thoughout the day and night. binbin854 Posted August 21, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 21, 2016 We have purchased it but on river cruises and intend to do so again here. The included wines have been very limited and probably no different on ocean. Neither if us drink beer. In the evening we like after dinner drinks and if you're on the ship after dinner each night we found the package was well worth it. We don't have any sea days but will have an afternoon or two to relax on board. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
rjscott Posted August 21, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 21, 2016 We had it on our last river cruise and my husband really enjoyed it. We had a waiter who was very well versed in the better wines and selected one or two each evening for my husband to try. It really enhanced his enjoyment of the meals. Krisval Posted August 22, 2016 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2016 We have enjoyed having the package on the river cruises and will have it on our ocean cruise in December. I agree with rjscott that a knowledgeable waiter can be very helpful. We've also found the bartenders to have pretty good suggestions on wines for dinner and drinks at other times. We like the package for the convenience of being able to have a glass of wine or drink at times outside of lunch and dinner. We are traveling with two other couples and we all have the package which makes it very convenient at meals for everyone to have access to the same menu of drinks and not feel "excluded." binbin854 Posted September 22, 2016 #10 Share Posted September 22, 2016 The cruise paperwork/docs clearly state drinks not included in Torshaven. Guess we will see in board. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app Drinks ARE included in Torshaven if the drink is $9.00 or less. There are many drinks in that lounge that cost more than that so if you choose to order those you will pay for them. We really enjoyed the Silver Beverage Package! t&c_traveling Posted September 28, 2016 #12 Share Posted September 28, 2016 We were just on the Viking Homelands and we purchased the silver spirits package and definitely got our money's worth. I wouldn't go on a cruise without it. Sent from my SM-G920T using Forums mobile app I second that! It really depends on how much you drink. My wife and I like a cocktail or 2 before dinner, and most nights had after dinner drinks in the Living Room. During sea day, and afternoons of days with morning tours only, we would have drinks from the Pool Bar. We definitely got our money's worth, and after the bartenders became familiar with us, drinks were "stronger", as they knew you could drink as much as you wanted. Only issue was Grey Goose was not included, but managed with Stoli.
Bill'sBride Posted October 26, 2016 #14 Share Posted October 26, 2016 Did Grey Goose fall outside of the $9 limit? We are trying to decide about the package for our Med Odyssey cruise, my husband drinks Sapphire or a single malt and now I wonder if those would not be included. Any gin or scotch drinkers out there who know the answer? Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Thanks so much Peregrina they are great pix and the bar menu's are very useful. We are still not sure whether to buy the Silver Spirit Beverage package or pay as we go. Does anyone know whether the tonic to go with gin is a premium version like Fevertree or Fentiman's? It does make a difference to a G&T.

On-board brand of soft drinks is either Coke or Pepsi brands (can't remember which one) and so I would think that the tonic is whichever label is owned by the supplier. Odyssey, although they said they were thinking of changing (not sure if/when that might happen). Wound up drinking Stoli, which was OK.
ChucktownSteve Posted October 28, 2016 #20 Share Posted October 28, 2016 It seems to me that $30/day for the drinks package is very reasonable if you wish to drink outside of dinner/lunch service or have a cocktail instead of beer/wine. That's less than 4 drinks/day.
It's a Fair Port Posted October 28, 2016 #21 Share Posted October 28, 2016 I have just been readin Chriscruises.com for the reviews of West Indies Explorer trip we will be taking. He is saying the beverage package for this trip is $19.99/day and both passengers do not have to take it. Apparently Caribbean beer is also free throughout the day from what he has written. maddie2312 Posted October 29, 2016 #22 Share Posted October 29, 2016 (edited) Just got off Star yesterday and would say the Silver package is definitely worth it. With out it alcohol wise you are limited to wine or beer with lunch & dinner. A beer is $5, premium wines generally $6.50 and spirits start at $5. The limit per drink price has increased to $15 from $9 I read about in here and had no problems getting cocktails like French Martinis in Torshavn. It also means if you dine at the Chefs table you will be served the premium wine pairings which normally cost $25 pp. Your table number also has a list of premium wines available which are included in the package. The staff were happy to let you try a sip of a couple before you settled on one. I also asked for a desert wine to go with my creme brûlée one evening in the Restaurant. Our sommelier Paul knew the perfect choice which although not strictly a desert wine its sweetness matched perfectly. It's a Fair Port Posted October 29, 2016 #23 Share Posted October 29, 2016 Thanks for your input! Was the cost per day indeed $19.99. Was surprised to see this in Chris Owens postings when everywhere else we read $29.

Rare Vineyard View Posted October 29, 2016 #25 Share Posted October 29, 2016 It is encouraging to hear about this reduction in Silver Spirits pricing along with expanded offerings. I wonder if this is going to be offered only on Caribbean sailings or is the beginning of a change throughout.....Viking perhaps you could provide some input on this for us? Maddie, we would be most interested in reading further about your experiences on your Caribbean sailing.....if you have the opportunity....possibly over on your roll call? Thank you for taking the time to update us on the drink package and dining.
