Grandeur Questions - 9n Canada/NE

Recommended Posts

Heading out on the Grandeur in August for a 9 nite Canada/NE and have some questions for anyone who's been on similar:

1) Formal nights? Nights 2 and 7 or 2 and 8?

2) Anyone have the progression of menus through the 9 nights (i.e. menu names Moja, Saffron etc)

3) What time are the main shows in the evening? We are trying to pre-reserve some dinner reservations and want to make sure we don't interfere with those.

4) Any suggestions on something not to miss either on ship or in the ports?

5) What table games (other than BJ, Roulette and Craps) do they have in casino? Is it smokey? Is is crowded?

6) We are driving from NJ, how's dropping off luggage and parking at the port?

Thanks to those who take time to provide info! Booked quite some time ago and just starting our planning!:)

4) Any suggestions on something not to miss either on ship or in the ports?

5) What table games (other than BJ, Roulette and Craps) do they have in casino? Is it smokey? Is is crowded? All of those - smokiness varies by sailing as does crowding

We were able to pull right up to the porters and they removed the luggage from the trunk. Parking lot is a very short walk to the terminal for check-in. We loved the Grandeur and the crew was wonderful. Enjoy your cruise.

Sorry I can't help with your other questions.

Smoking is never allowed on any balcony. There are designated smoking areas. As mentioned above, the terminal is incredibly easy, Exit 55 off off I-95. Just make sure you're in the right lane as you go through the Ft McHenry Tunnel and don't speed coming down the exit, cops watching.

A couple of tips since you are driving down from Jersey.

When you get near the White Marsh area in Maryland you will see Express toll lanes, save your money it's just as quick or quicker by not taking them.

When you get near the Fort McHenry tunnel make sure you are in the far right lane before you go into the tunnel. You exit is about 100 yards after you exit and there is now way to get over if your not in the right lane.

Also as you exit watch your speed on the exit ramp .The MD Transportation Police have been giving out speeding tickets at the end of the ramp.

BTW I see we are on the same cruise.

Agree with others that the port of Baltimore is great. Went to Bermuda a couple of years ago and can't say enough nice things about the port.

Wife and I had a passport issue (our fault, don't ask). Anyway, the staff in the terminal was great to work with to resolve our problem, which fortunately, we were able to do quickly and getting on the ship was delayed only a short amount of time.

Doing New England cruise- Sep1- Grandeur of Seas. Reading about passports- forced me to go to safe & check. Ours expire Jan 2017. Glad I did not wait until week before. At least I know OK for this trip.

My wife will be on the 9/24 sailing to Bermuda. We're going the birth certificate route since it's a pretty simple trip. We'll get the passports for the next one since it'll probably be more port intensive.

Heading out on the Grandeur in August for a 9 nite Canada/NE and have some questions for anyone who's been on similar:

1) Formal nights? Nights 2 and 7 or 2 and 8? From what I've seen it's usually the first and next-to-the-last sea day of the cruise.

2) Anyone have the progression of menus through the 9 nights (i.e. menu names Moja, Saffron etc) I don't have this for you, but ask your waiter -- ours have always given it to us. this will allow you to schedule Giovanni's Table for one of the poorer nights. And you want to do both Izumi and Giovanni's (you can do Izumi for lunch). Order the Mochi at Izumi and the Tira Misu at Giovanni's. Both are amazing.

3) What time are the main shows in the evening? We are trying to pre-reserve some dinner reservations and want to make sure we don't interfere with those. The Grandeur does an amazing job at organizing their shows around the main dining room seating times. I would schedule the later dining. (I have done this every time)

4) Any suggestions on something not to miss either on ship or in the ports? If Blair is your CD, he does a really good show late in the cruise. Other than that, just enjoy the ship -- it's a wonderful ship.

5) What table games (other than BJ, Roulette and Craps) do they have in casino? Is it smokey? Is is crowded? Mississippi Stud, Caribbean Stud, 3 Card Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold 'Em. They also have a $5 accessible Blackjack table and a $6 game ($5 main bet and $1 QoH Side bet or $6 total main bet). I would recommend sticking to the $10 and up BJ -- avoid the $5 table because it pays 6-to-5 on BJ. They also host poker tournaments. I've won 1 and placed 2nd in another.

6) We are driving from NJ, how's dropping off luggage and parking at the port? Easy -- we love Baltimore's port. You drive up, and some gentleman will help you with your luggage. Bring a $5 to tip him.

Thanks to those who take time to provide info! Booked quite some time ago and just starting our planning!:)

Have fun!!

There are no longer mandatory formal nights on any RCI ship.
But formal nights have never been mandatory, it's the suggested attire. Some folks are formal, some are a suit and tie, some, well not so much....K.O.:)
