Does "X" offer free bus to get out of industrial port calls on British Isle cruise?

On the 12 day British Isles Cruise and having done most of the ports of call on Princess about ten years ago I know that the cruise ships dock in the heart of a pretty major industrial port and surrounded by containers and a nasty/dangerous/LONG walk out. Stops at Le Harve, Dublin, Dover and depending on whether they dock right downtown at Glasgow or not, need a shuttle, do they have one and is it free?

Anyone know?

They did at Rome (Chitvennnssr... what ever)

We haven't done the British Isles yet but our experience has been that if the port doesn't provide a shuttle then Celebrity contracts for shuttle service and they charge a fee.

Past 3 cruises shuttle fees were in the range of $12-17 per person.

The shuttle at Civitavecchia is operated by the port and takes you to the edge of town. It is not permitted to walk unescorted in most secure port areas. Agree you need a shuttle and most ports offer one to get you out of the secure area and there often is a fee.

The ship will dock at Greenock which is about 25 miles from Glasgow.

What ship are you booked on and what is the date? We have done the British Isles on the Infinity a few years ago and are thinking doing it again?

May 26 Silhouette out of Amsterdam. Booked last minute. Huge roll call!

At LeHavre, you walk out into a tourist area that's a significant distance from town but all of the services to get there are available. I don't think there's any shuttle service.

In Dublin, there will be some sort of shuttle but it's not free. If there are more than two of you, a taxi would be cheaper.

As someone has already mentioned, Glasgow is about 25 miles inland and you need to take the train from Greenock to get there. We had no problem walking from the ship to the train station. I also understand that there some excellent free tours of Greenock available.

Check on the ports of call boards. You'll find a lot of specific information about what to do in each port and how to do it.

Generally not free. Last year out of Dublin it was approx 10-12 dollars.

We took the shuttle one-way out of Dublin, as there were no taxis. We docked in an industrial port where no taxis ventured, and walking was not an option. The BIG problem was taking a taxi back to the ship. There was no signage, and our taxi had no idea where to go. There were many other taxis racing around the back roads of the port trying to find the ship. Probably about 100 of us pulled up just minutes before the ship left.

If your ship docks in an industrial area, I would recommend somehow documenting your location with a smart phone or GPS. Otherwise, leave more time to get back than you normally would.

If any of the British Isles cruises stop off at Liverpool. one only has to fall off the ship & you are practically in the City centre & a short walk to the fabulous Albert Dock:)

Yes, we were on the Caribbean Princess when she became the largest cruise ship to ever dock there back in June 2008. We did the Cavern Club and the usual walking around stuff. This time we're signed up to visit the Beatles chiledhood homes in the afternoon. Sure an easy pick-up at the Jurys Inn! :D

No ship can dock downtown in Glasgow!

Also been there an knew that.:D Took the train last time but think I may do a Highlands tour this year.
