Okay, you've got me curious. As an avid reader, which author and what book(s) are you talking about?

There were a series of books, author will either show as Nino Cullotta or John O'Grady.

 

The first was "Their a Weird Mob" which was also made into a movie, basically the story of an Italian who moves to Aus and all the cultural issues, including language, that followed.

 

He followed up with books such as Cop this Lot, Aussie English, Things they do to you (Hospital based) Gone fishing, No Kava for Johnny and I would need to have a look for other titles.

 

I'm not sure how They're a Weird Mob would go for non Aussies, and I'm also not sure how the Politically Correct would deal with it (well actually I have a fair idea).

I think in part it is the small population and isolation that makes us such friendly nations,

 

It also gives you more time to nick their wallets ;)

 

 

@Sarze2591 - Get a Taxi with a roofrack. There will be plenty of room inside for you and your luggage. The kids get great views, fresh air when they are secured tied down on top. If it's raining they even get washed. No need to worry about dodgy car seats. Everyone is a winner.

Nino Culotta is a mongrelisation of Italian and Aussie slang.

Culo as a slang word means bottom, backside, asre (sp).

Lotta just means what it says, heaps, or lots of.

Nino is a pet name used with a youngsters name, as in a young Giovanni being called Giovanino.

So when you boil it down, as John O'Grady did in one of his books, you get

"Young Big Asre", (not allowed to spell asre correctly on this place).
