What type of attire is recommended for evenings in restaurants?

Legend - open space. I love to be able to see the water. On some of the new larger ships (I.e. RCCL OASIS), there were so few places to just gaze out at the water I was disappointed. So which us better sailing ship or motor yacht?

I'll probably be booking the Caribbean as a solo so how is seating handled in restaurants?

Lastly - what has been your favorite experience on Wind Star and why?

Thanks!!!

Assuming you are female, dressy pants & top, pretty sundress in Caribbean. Have seen some really high heels and a broken ankle when trying to dance at night with ship moving.

I like open space too so prefer Surf but Legend also has nice space. Would pick itinerary as primary concern. Seating open so just tell them you'd like company or not and they'll take care of you.

Favorite experience? Too many to choose just one. Each trip has been unique. Blood pressure drops with each sail away.

Attire from their website:

For women's daytime wear, we suggest walking shorts, skirts, sarongs, lightweight tops and cover-ups; for evening wear, sun dresses, pants, and informal cocktail attire. Men's daytime wear: walking/ Bermuda shorts, polo shirts, khaki pants; in the evening, lightweight trousers and short-sleeved dress/polo shirts. No suits or ties.

Here is a link to their deck plans:

To get an idea of size of the Legend - it is about 80 feet longer than a football field and about 1/3 of the width. So you will definitely be able see the ocean at all times.

As far as sailing ship or motor ship - I would base my decision on itinerary and price.

It is open seating in the restaurants. You can choose to dine alone or with others as you wish.

Since it seems as if you have only cruised on large ships, please be aware that the evening entertainment is usually a duo or small group in the lounges. No big time shows. Also, the casino is much smaller than on the big ships.

Probably our special experience would be sailing out of Istanbul.

Ditto for all of the above but I do think on the sailing yachts you see more of the water just the nature of the beast. There are places outside on the Breeze to get away from the sun you really do not see the water. So in respect probably the same. We have had 19 experiences on WS so I have a few favorites. Favorite Sailaway leaving the continent to cross the Pacific, favorite city to sailaway from Istanbul but Oslo also up there. Most beautiful sailing the lagoon in Tahiti, most exciting Amsterdam, oh well loved them all.

I carry only a carry on when I travel so my clothing is limited for evening nice pants and top and that is it and I never feel under or over dressed. It is the little things about WS we love great water pressure in the showers, eat whenever you want, no pretentions, service perfect and the quiet. Enjoy with an open mind and heart.
