rockdoctor Posted April 16, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 16, 2016 In many parts of Europe, including Italy, Tour Guides are licensed, freelancers. Most work for many companies. It's not like, say, Alaska where anyone can call themselves a Tour Guide. If the guide company is reputabe, the guide will ge fine.

lynncarol Posted April 22, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 22, 2016 It's been several years since we've been, but once in Naples, local trains will get you to Pompeii easily and cheaply. Once there, guides for hire waited by the ticket lines, and we joined a group of six other tourists. Our guide gave us a wonderful tour of the site that lasted most of the morning and if I recall correctly, he charged 10 euros per person.
