Just off Carnival Breeze...disappointed

I recently spoke to someone who has been on the Splendor and she told that she was totally disappointed in the food. Same food every day. My last cruise on Carnival was back in 2014 on the Sunshine, and I ate every night in one of the specialties restaurant and it was a great experience.
Actually I just got off the Sunshine (cruised 4/28 - 5/6) and the food was actually very good as it was the previous time I had cruised on her. Maybe it has to do with the chef and staff they have on board each individual ship as to why the food may be hit or miss. We did eat in the Italian Rest on the Sunshine and it was FANTASTIC as it was when we were on the Breeze last year. I guess the specialty restaurants are the way to go.

I loved that ship!
The crowd was a little older when we cruised on her ( we were in our 30's) but it was actually a GREAT cruise and a great ship! We even had the pleasure of meeting John "Bowzer" Bowman formally of the group Sha Na Na, sat in the bar having drinks and shooting the breeze with him until the wee hours of the morning! GREAT time !

I always laugh when people say "they had the same thing every day" at the breakfast buffet. Seriously, is there a breakfast food that they do not have available? What addition could anyone be looking for?

Regular sausage instead of hot dog pieces.

NO NO NO! I wasn't calling you the thread police! I thought it was funny what you said! I was talking about other comments and threads that I have seen throughout the site at different times. I believe someone in the early parts of the thread accused me of being a troll and called for an investigation or something. :)

You realize you're only making it worse for yourself. Permanent Record! ;p

It's redundant because for the most part, bacon and sausage are greasy breakfast meats. If you don't sail on a ship that has the bacon police that dole the strips out, you need to wade through a pile of mostly greasy, undercooked bacon to come up with a few fully cooked edible pieces to accompany your cooked to order omelette.

Haven't tried those wings yet. Perhaps on my 4 day I will give them a go.

Also forgot to try the tacos at the Blue Iguna as well. Lots to look forward to I suppose.

My favorite breakfast and one of the quickest is on the taco side of the blue iguana (not the long burrito line) - try an arepas and have them prepare you some huevos rancheros with a fresh cooked over medium egg on top! Every morning I could have had this if the Sea Day brunch wasn't also calling my name.

I understand completely how you felt about the food, as I felt the same way about the food on our Dream cruise in January. We ate in the MDR 6 out 7 nights and it was mostly just okay, a couple things I liked quite a lot, but most was just not memorable. Except for the dinner rolls, I've always loved Carnival's dinner rolls with butter. :) The one night we decided not to go to the MDR (we looked at the menu in the afternoon and nothing appealed to us) we went to the buffet. I was extremely disappointed in their dinner offerings. The only things I chose were a baked potato and a little rice. Sad.

I did room service breakfast every morning, as we had a balcony and one of my favorite things to do on our cruises is to have breakfast on the balcony. Great way to start the day! But I only had my favorite, smoked salmon, one morning as it was not printed on the menu but I had heard from others that if you wrote something on the menu you might luck out and get it so I did write it on the menu and when the crew member brought breakfast to our room he said "I brought the salmon special for you, but we no longer offer it on the menu" so I enjoyed it immensely that morning, but didn't have the nerve to write it on the menu any other morning. :(

On a previous cruise I had enjoyed the deli several times so was looking forward to going there on the Dream too, but only went once as the grilled cheese I asked for was simply a couple slices of American cheese (I wasn't given a choice on the cheese to use) put on white bread and stuck in a panini press a few seconds. No condiments at all. It wasn't good. So I didn't go back. Disappointing.

I remembered Guy's Burgers, I think it was on our Conquest cruise, and was so wishing the Dream had Guy's but they didn't get one until after drydock, a couple weeks AFTER our cruise. :(

We went to Pasta Bella a couple times, the first time was okay, the second time wasn't good.

We didn't go to any of the pay food venues, as normally we are satisfied with the food on the buffet and MDR but on the Dream (and sometimes even the Conquest) we were disappointed. I actually lost 4 pounds on the cruise, and that NEVER happened before.

The disappointing food is one of the main reasons we will be trying other cruise lines. We'd like to try Celebrity next, and Princess, maybe Norwegian, Holland America, etc. I also want to go back to Royal Caribbean and try Oasis or Allure.

As far as your experience with the room steward, I wouldn't have been happy with his attitude either and his tip would have reflected that. They shouldn't be trying to clean your room at 7 a.m. unless that time was previously agreed on, and to simply request an addition pillow and get attitude from him? Unacceptable. I know there has been a lot of controversy about going from twice a day to once a day room cleaning, but for me I much prefer just once a day, in the evening. Mornings I like to relax and have a leisurely breakfast on the balcony, shower, etc. and I hate feeling pressured to leave the room so he/she can come in and clean. Sometimes we had left to go have breakfast, then came back and the room still wasn't cleaned so we had to leave again. I hated that. Generally we go to dinner and a show, comedy club, have drinks in a bar, etc. so we're "out for the evening" and they have plenty of time to service our room then.

Love the breeze - was on her 3 times. She is my favorite ship so far. I had a issue with room service the first day but, that was it. The food was fine. But, we are not picky. Going on vista in November.

We cruised the Breeze April 3 - 9 to Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. We had been to GC and Coz before but this was the first trip to Ocho Rios. All in all we had a great time. All of the ports did not disappoint and we had plenty to do.

The ship, however, did not live up to my expectations. The food was horrible! The breakfast buffet had a variety but was the same every single day, the scrambled eggs were the equivalent of a sponge and completely inedible and the breakfast meats were greasy and under cooked. The bagels and toast were pre-toasted and sitting under a heat lamp making them hard, rubbery and old tasting. I am by no means a foodie but I was very disappointed in the quality as well as the taste of the food. The Omelette station was pretty much the only place to actually get "fresh" tasting eggs, but the line, early or late was at least a 25-30 min wait every single day, in or out of port. The Omelettes were very very good and worth the wait!

The tried the lunch buffet twice and found it absolutely terrible. The salads were pretty good but the entrees were just plain bad and not tasty at all. I don't understand why Carnival has resorted to covering every cut of meat or meat dish in some kind of sauce. It might be to cover the fact that they are using very low quality cuts of meat, but whatever it is, it's just not appetizing. Needless to say, The Guy's burgers were pretty much the lunch time go to place. One afternoon I decided to try the "Sea Dogs" but alas after trudging up there, I was informed that they had no hot dogs, just sausage. I was just a tiny bit upset but oh well. I remember the days of the lido grill with the grilled hamburgers and hot dogs available all afternoon and wish that were still an option. The deli was ok but I wasnt a big fan of the slapping the meat on pre-toasted bread and calling it a "grilled ham and cheese". Didn't try the BBQ as the lines were way too long and all I heard were people complaining that it just wasn't worth the wait.

The MDR was visited only once because of the bad service and sub par menu choices. I had ordered the beef tenderloin cooked medium rare and it was fatty, grizzly and hard to chew, again, it was covered in some secret sauce that was just terrible tasting. I ate one piece and left the rest on the plate. The baked potato came in a bowl, uncut but turned out to be the best part of the dinner. The wedge salad was good as it is hard to mess up lettuce and the dressings were very tasty. My son ordered the grilled Mahi Mahi and it was rubbery and tasteless. Disappointing to say the least.

The Italian restaurant on board was the best meal we had all week, but then again, I would expect it to be since we paid extra for it.

The room steward was very nice but very pushy, he was extremely irritated when we were in our room when he decided that he wanted to service it at 7 am in the morning. I asked him for an extra pillow and he was openly exasperated with the request.

The bartenders on board were the best! They always remembered who we were and what we drank and we never had to wait very long for a cocktail.

The casino staff was top notch and the casino wait staff was as well.

All in all, I liked the ship but I think it really needs some improvements in the culinary and staffing areas. I have never sailed anyone but Carnival and have always received the best service and enjoyed every other ship I have previously been on. The Breeze, however, just did not meet my expectations. Might be time to try another line or move back to the smaller ships.

I've always said cruise food is quantity over quality. Do I go hungry, no, but I do find a good restaurant when we dock. I consider the ship an all inclusive resorts, less alcohol, and the food is definitely not on par with land resorts. But again, we always find something to eat.

Food on Carnival has never been their strong suit, the steakhouse as a huge disappointment on the Breeze, however I will say there are plenty of good dining choices. Guys, Blue Iguana, Pizza place and the Tandoori are fantastic. Most of my Carnival cruises have been quick weekend getaways on the Fantasy class. Last year we did an 8 day Eastern on the Breeze it was a phenomenal trip, I fell in love with the ship, the service was great. It completely blew my expectations out of the water.

Wow..if all it takes is one negative review of a ship to have you not cruise on that ship, I guess you won't be cruising ever again...on any cruise line.

That's what I was thinking too...I have been on the Breeze 3 times---LOVE that ship---never had any problem finding delicious food, great activities, relaxation etc. I do find it hard to believe a room steward would be trying to clean a room at 7am--seems exaggerated since the OP certainly spouts a lot of negatives. Most people aren't even awake yet.

So maybe this last poster should take a look at all the positive reviews, cuz I am not sure what other ship on Carnival can compare to the Breeze.

Food is completely and 200% subjective. Sorry you were disappointed. At least the casino staff was great.

Try another ship. Bigger isn't better for everyone.

Fat and grisly is not subjective. Those eggs are not subjective.

I said food in general. Not pointing out one or two items when the poster mentioned many different things. Don't pick out one or two specifics to make your point when my point was a general one and not JUST regarding this review.

Anybody that is in the know should already know to go to the omelette station to get their eggs freshly prepared, whether it be over easy or scrambled. The stuff in the warming tray is powdered nonsense.

# NEVER LIDO

The buffet is the last place to eat never the first.

JUST SAY NO TO BUFFET's :D

Sea Day Brunch for B-fast or the Blue Iguana Cantina.

Lunch at Tandoor, or Cucina pasta bar

Dinner at the MDR, or Cucina or Steakhouse

Snacks all over but Red Frog Pub Wings

#NEVER Buffet

I have to agree, but you forgot lunch at Guys, which my husband loves. The only thing I ever ate from the buffet was a salad.

We ate breakfast or brunch in the MDR every morning. If you don't want those spongy scrambled eggs, just ask them to use fresh eggs. Same for omelettes! You can ask for them at the omelette stations too!

We like the Red Frog Pub coconut shrimp for a snack.

If you don't like an entree then by all means ask the waiter for something else. Don't just sit there. Speak up right then. Putting it on CC doesn't do any good.

We've been on the Breeze 3 times and found the food good and the service excellent every time. We also eat in the Steakhouse at least twice on every cruise and in Cucina del Capitano at least once or twice. Can't go wrong with either of those. Some of the MDR entrees were really good, like the beef short ribs and lamb shanks.

Yes a negative review of a specific ship or lines is all it takes, there are to many options out there so I vote with my money. Besides, why did you read this thread?

Cheers, to many options!
