Sorry your trip was so bad. I am afraid we will be smelling the deck 7 odor as well we have 7272, what was your cabin?

Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

We were aft in the 7 high numbers. A few cabins from the elevators on the Port side. We rarely get our expectations up too high when it comes to Carnival. We had never been on the Legend and wanted to see what she was all about. You can see in my sig what Carnival ships we've been on - some more than once. They say food is "subjective," but when I see lots of subjects left on the plate and then being dumped I know why.

Hope you have good cruise - it's better than going to work I have to say. We're retired so we can usually pack and go.

We are in room 7300 off the back of the ship for the 10 day sail from Vancouver to Hawaii on 9/13/16. Hope they can get rid of that smell before we are on there - but thanks for the advice of taking some Febreeze - I've added it to my list of things to pack.

Enjoy the vibration. In the MDR, we sat completely aft during Sea Day Brunch, and I thought our water glasses were going to make their way to the floor! I got a nice butt massage in my chair!

It had a rounded screen to it, it wasn't flat, it almost looked like a model from the 80's, with a large back to it.

What disappointed us?

The food was horrible. I've never been on a cruise where I saw so much wasted food. Walking by trays left outside of cabins, I wondered why people even bothered to order room service. I'd say that 90% of the food offerings on Lido were carbohydrate intensive. There was a salad bar which was sufficient enough and that's about all I ate - which did get tiresome. On days where the MDR was closed for lunch, Lido was packed. The bacon was greasy and limp - not well cooked. I saw lots of it left on plates. So were whole pizzas left because it was burnt. Even the waiters clearing tables were making fun of it.

Screaming kid. The very first day on board we went to Lido for lunch I knew we were in for trouble. The child was about 14 months old screaming bloody murder! I'm talking blood curdling screaming and crying. The mother wouldn't put him down, that's all he wanted was to get some exercise. I got my salad and ate it in our cabin. Next morning we decide to go to the MDR for sea day brunch. The mother showed up with the kid - and the kid was screaming again. We left as we didn't want to hear it. We had 7 days of this nonsense.

Sea Day Brunch (last one and no screaming kid). DH and I ordered the steak and eggs. The steak was so tough we could hardly cut it with a knife. It was served on top of boiled spinach. I ordered wheat toast but it never showed up. I also ordered 2 eggs and they were okay - pretty hard to screw up a fried egg.

Juneau: We were at least an hour late getting into Juneau. Platinum/Diamond/FTTF were told to meet down by Truffles MDR and we would be escorted off first as soon as we were cleared. We sat for 2 hours waiting. The CD called Groups 1 and 2 first (EXCURSION PEOPLE). Platinum/Diamond/FTTF got pretty damned pissed as some of them had private excursions which they missed. They weren't allowed in Groups 1 and 2 because they did not book with Carnival! So you FTTF people who PAID for the debarkation privilege can and will get screwed.

We got off in Juneau and headed to the Red Dog Saloon, had a beer and listen to an old guy sing some raunchy songs. He was funny and we had a great time at the bar. We then went back to the ship as it was too late to take a private excursion. Thanks Carnival!

Internet: Slow, slow, slow! I paid $25 and thought I was getting 24 hours - to use at my leisure. Nope, it's all the minutes you can use in a 24 hour time period! WTH! So, on Monday, I bought the $16 - 24 hour package to check in with the airlines. Everyone but me had trouble getting into their airline website. So, I sat there for 4 hours checking people in and printing their boarding passes. After all, it was Memorial Day and I was providing a community service for those folks. They didn't have to give Carnival their money. I was offered tons of drinks, but I declined, I had to keep my wits about me. Carnival got screwed out of a lot of money and I was glad to help.:D

Comedy show: I don't know who that idiot comedian was, but I wasn't going to wait around wondering why he calls himself that. The one that was suppose to perform missed the ship. DH and I found a seat. We sat down and this guy said that the seats were saved. I told him no seat saving, if your party isn't here too bad. We sat there for at least 20 minutes and got up and left - their party never showed up. They probably saw what was going on and said no thanks!

We purchased the wine package the first day - 5 bottles for $131.10. You can get your wine from the atrium main bar or go to the MDR. We opt to enjoy our wine on our balcony. Even though the weather was beautiful, we asked our cabin steward for 2 blankets - and we used them! Saw many other passengers with blankets as well.

For those of you with a balcony, dress warm. I had a hooded sweat shirt, sweat pants and a thermal top underneath and I was cozy. You can't put on what you don't have. Carnival will hold sales selling T-shirts, jackets, but you will get better deals in ports. I bought a sweat shirt in port for $20.00, fleeced on the inside. I'll be wearing that on our upcoming Princess cruise to New England.

The Steakhouse: We ate in the steak house the first night. You get a free bottle of wine with your meal. DH had steak and lobster and I got the lobster only. Creamed spinach and the sauteed mushrooms for sides. The mushrooms were excellent. They were a mixture of ****take (S h i i t a k e) and button mushrooms sauteed in butter and garlic. The lobster was good as well. I'd say it was the best meal we had on board. The total came to $86.72.

Smell! We were on Deck 7 aft. The minute you walk down the stairs from Lido to Deck 7 the stench began and permeated through the hall way clear to the windows of the atrium. The ventilation coming into the cabin brought the stench of rotting food in. Then for a day we got the smell of paint into our cabin. It gave me quite a headache. I am so thankful that I brought a large can of Febreeze. It helped a lot and took some of the stench away. The cabin steward admitted that they can't get rid of the smell. It reminded me of the Inspiration and the ventilation problem on the ship.

Glacier Bay: It was beautiful. Alaska will always be our favorite place to cruise to. The scenery is breath taking. We saw a bear, mountain goats, eagles, whales, orcas, porpoise, and seals. We watched it all from our balcony. We were enjoying the peace of no noise, just taking it all in. Then 2 cabins down, the kids showed up screaming, yelling, moving chairs, jumping up and down! ***! This is why we like Princess, very few children on board and the ones that are are well behaved. So, I think this will be our last Carnival Cruise. We saw too many cut backs, lack of quality entertainment, and the Legend is pretty beat up. There was rotting metal on the corner of the shower - I don't know what's keeping the door jam from collapsing.

Expect other cruise ships to be in port. In Juneau you will be tendering. If you're platinum/FTTF/Diamond, find out where Groups 1 and 2 will be meeting and demand to be included as you do have the privilege of debarkation first. You earned it, you paid for it. Don't take no for an answer. Get into Jen the CD's face - she doesn't tell the truth. Don't let her railroad you like she did us.

That's about all I can say. The scenery is lovely, don't get your expectations up too high. If you're platinum and diamond status do go to the Captain's party and drink as much as you can - we did! It was held on Sunday around 4:30 pm - 5:15 pm. Cheers!

Sounds like some staterooms have flatscreens and some don't. I was in a standard, deck 7 balcony and also had an older TV.

That's about the only experience I had that matched. We traveresed the entire ship and, except for smoke in the smoking areas, never caught any smells.

The food was not horrible. The Lido buffet was a normal buffet, but it was good food, certainly not the best, but good.

Tendering in Juneau was definitely a mess. We missed an excursion due to the delays, but Carnival put us on a much more expense one that landed us on the glacier. Some things need improved there, but it won't matter as they won't tender in Juneau again.

We saw the comedian twice late in the cruise and found him hilarious (there were to be 2 comedians but 1 missed the ship). In fact, the later show was packed and the crowd was laughing so loud and often he had to delay his next jokes. He was edgy but it was an 18+ show and the crowd LOVED him.

I laid in the sun on Serenity Monday and did my airline check-in from my phone. No international plan or Carnival plan. I used cell service from the US as we were that close.

Jen Baxter was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. Every time I saw her she made me smile. She was all energy. I'm guessing the reviewer said Jen lied in relation to the tendering problems. Not sure Jen had any control over that. It's a shame that ruined her whole trip. I have been on many cruises and never enjoyed a CD so much.

Overall I'm puzzled by this review. My guess is the reviewer saved money booking Carnival but really wanted Princess. On all of our past cruises I've never had a better ship, crew or overall experience (even despite tendering). We've cruised other lines but wouldn't have changed even if they cut our price. This ship was easily our favorite!

We had a great time and smiled through any issues. :)

I was on the end that smelled like a garbage dump, others complained too.

They say food is subjective. When I see plates of food left on the table, and I can't find anything decent to eat other than pasta, rice or potatoes, I find that lacking on Carnivals part. This is one of the areas that they cut back and it shows.

How do you know that Carnival won't be tendering in Juneau. The ships that were in Juneau along with the Legend make the same route as Carnival. This is the second time we've tendered in Juneau. The first time went smoothly - it wasn't a Carnival cruise, so that may be the difference.

I laid in the sun on Serenity Monday and did my airline check-in from my phone. No international plan or Carnival plan. I used cell service from the US as we were that close.

Many passengers didn't have a phone to check in, me included. I'm a simple person who likes to have a piece of paper in my hand and not have to fumble for a phone to get things done. I enjoyed helping out several veterans who had no clue as how to get their boarding passes. I had a phone but no cell service - pay as you go.

Jen had control. She knew what she was doing. Maybe she took orders from someone, but she lied at the end. I remembered her from the Carnival Spirit - she had a big mouth then and she hasn't let up.

Why are you puzzled? I gave it what I thought. That was our 30th cruise so I am not new to this. This is one of the worse ships we've ever been on - next to the Inspiration. Others we've met said the same, so this is no exaggeration. I give kudos where it belongs on Carnival, this time I won't give it. BTW, saved money? No! We could have gone on Princess with better deals. We had already been on the Princess ships to Alaska and wanted to experience the Legend for the first time. I'll take Princess the next time. Maybe in a couple of months we'll do it again - on Princess.;)

We had a great time and smiled through any issues. :)

Thanks for the report. We'll be on the Legend in August.

I noticed in your signature, you sailed the Sapphire to Mexico in February of 2014, I thought it was in Asia at that time?

It is my favorite ship and we sail to Mexico often, I would have booked that in a heartbeat!

The Sapphire did the Panama Canal then down to Mexico in 2014. That's why we booked it. I still have my S&S card. My S&S card says: 2/01/2014 - 2/08/2014 Voyage H407N Hope that helps.

We are scheduled for room 7289 Jun 14th. Do they have an Alchemy Bar on the legend? Did the ship time stay the same as Seattle or did they change to Alaska? Hope to have the nice weather you had.

Certainly no harm intended. It was just such a stark difference to our experience. I'm sorry it didn't go well for you. With your number of cruises you would no the difference. :)

No problem. The only thing that didn't go well was the cabin smell and the debarkation in Juneau. We enjoyed the Captains party, the Steakhouse dinner, the scenery and wildlife, and the occasional MDR meals. There's a couple of other Carnival ships we don't plan on boarding again, it didn't fit what we can tolerate. There's also a couple of Princess ships that we won't board again either. No big deal to us, we try to keep our expectations low.

The time changed to 1 hour behind in Alaska, and back to PST in Canada. They'll let you know when to set your clocks behind and then forward.

Thanks for explaining.

We just got off the Legend on the 31st. The ship was awesome. Shows were good. Cruise director is hilarious. Food was very good. If your weather looks good, suggest the White Pass train in Skagway. We did the one where you did NOT need your passport (I believe it was the least expensive of all the train excursions) and it was AMAZING! It was chilly on most of the days but I wore fleece and it was fine. Ketchikan was really cold and rainy. Gloves and a hat are definitely a good idea to bring! Only stop we were a bit disappointed in was Victoria. It seemed most everywhere was closed. An employee in the dock/pier gift shop said most stores are required to close at dusk. Since we didn't even get there until 7:00 pm, we spent a LOT of time walking around to find so much closed. I'm sure there are things open but in walking distance, we didn't find much. Maybe if you took a bus tour of the city, you would be ok.

Could one of the OP's who have recently been on the Legend to Alaska tell me which nights were cruise elegant? I tried to find it in the Fun Times posted but couldn't.

On the May 16-24 trip, it was the 2nd and 6th night, but this trip was 8 nights (transition cruise) not the normal 7 nights. On those it is usually the 2nd and 5th night.

Lobster was only available, with no upcharge, on the 2nd night, but the prime rib was so much better and available on the 2nd, 6th, and one other night.

Our Legend cruise is scheduled for July 12th. In planning for electronics I read that there are USB ports on the sides of the of the flatscreen TV. This could be used to power up smart phones etc and make better use of the outlet on the vanity desk.

How was your trip?

I don't know the answer to your question. We will be on the same cruise as you. Just stopped by to say Hi. :) We are SOOO looking forward to it. :D

We cruised the May 24-31 (tues-tues).

Elegant nights were Wednesday (25th) and Saturday (28th).

Disembark was VERY fast. They unload from the bottom up for decks starting with Diamond, Platinum, FTTF and self-assist. We were on Deck 7 and our group (had Carnival take our bags off) was listed as as 8:15am. We were in the cruise terminal by then. We grabbed our bags, passed quickly through customs and got on our transport bus before 9am.

Thanks to both of you. All of the 7 day cruises I have been on have been the 2nd and 5th night. I guess that is norm for 7 day cruises. So hoping our disembark is as quick as musikfans. We have a tour van that is picking us up at the cruise port at 10 a.m.

Do they still use zone numbers? I noticed you had an 8:15 a.m. time. We also will have Carnival take our bags off because I don't want to mess with them. We are on deck 5.

Everyone can have our share of lobster. Neither my husband nor I like it. But we do like the prime rib. Can't wait until September.

The wife & I were in cabin 520* with my brother and sister in law next door...We thought embarking and disembarking was simple.

Our steward(ess) Ni was AWESOME, theirs apparently wasn't (ex: they were told on several days they had to leave their cabin for cleaning- their Snoozing sign was posted!; then their debarkation time was 8:50- he told them to leave about 8:20, I'd have told him to pack himself).

This was our second time on Legend. The first was our first cruise five years earlier. Still a good ship, but gathering quite a few miles....

We usually eat in the buffet for variety, we thought all but the pizza was pretty good- never Michelin rated, but not bad at all. we've enjoyed Carnival pizza before, but this cruise did fail. We did head to the MDR for Warm Melting Cake and to use Complimentary drink coupons. This is where our meals failed; and charged sales tax on two free sodas?

We were a bit baffled on the Juneau tendering- we were scheduled for the AMP berth; and we were told the Coast Guard delayed dropping anchor. While waiting for our excursion our guide said we had time to look around & they wouldn't leave= guess what they did? We regrouped and caught another group 1.5Hrs later, plus another delay because they had the wrong sized bus....but the Town Tram& Timberline Tour was pleasant after all.

Agree the White Pass Train Excursion in Skagway was really nice, especially with the awesome weather we were having. We spent the rest of the time walking the Pioneer cemetery, Lower Reid Falls and the town itself.

Glacier Bay= Nice! Not until we looked at our pictures with the small boats between us & a glacier that we really got a sense of scale. Be ready for a chill once the ship turns and you face the ice...

The person who asked the ranger why they don't clean the glacier for tourists- Dumb Much?

Ketchikan- too short on time to do much other than a quick tour in a van, and the lumberjack show...shame about the weather, but if you read about Ketchikan rain, you'll appreciate what we did have..

Victoria- too short and too late, what a shame. We did a self guided walk (had fun with some others, welcoming them to Canada ;-) ). Found Spinnakers Spirits where I picked up some wines I'd read about. My biggest irritation came on reboarding the ship. All other cruises I've done have a table set up to hold your liquor purchase, not this one. Had to wait about 45 minutes until an English speaking Supervisor came to give me a receipt- she said they didn't anticipate this---WHAT? other than that, it was 10pm on our last night, and they still take it for storage? What about those who had flight the next morning and had Carnival take their bags for them? Strange......

A very good cruise, but yes- we've noticed some cheapening. The Brits and Motown shows were the same we saw over the last few years..Not really a coffee drinker, finding tea (even at High Tea) is now only Lipton (and Bigelow green) was a bummer, the Past Guest reception is now only for Diamond and Platinum? The cooking demonstration in the steakhouse= same as since we started going.

Would I go again? YOU BETCHYA

Not sure if you were on the same cruise as us but it sounds like it. The anchoring wasn't delayed in Juneau. If you were listening to the CD, an hour before debarkation she stated that the ship had been cleared for passenger debarkation. Platinum, Diamond and FTTF were given a letter in their cabin stating to meet in the Truffles MDR for debarkation at 1:00 pm, and we would be the fist off the ship. We had several in our group that had private excursions. The CD after 2 hours called Groups 1 and 2. They were the ones who had the excursions through Carnival! They were paying customers and Carnival would have lost lots of $$$ and many unhappy passengers. So, Diamond/Platinum/FTTF (who paid for this privilege) sucked hind teat. Many in our group missed their excursions. So all I'm saying is, don't believe that you will get what Carnival has promised. They will lie through their teeth to come up with one lie after another. The CD said Group 1 and 2 did not get off first. Bald face lie. We not only heard them called, but I asked security once we got to port who got off first and he said "Group 1 and 2, they're right over there." We didn't have much time to shop so we headed over to the Red Dog saloon and had a beer. With 3 less hours in port, there wasn't much time for an excursion and make it back to the ship in time for sailing. Very disappointed in Carnival.

I noticed you said in the end that you only had three hours in port, we didn't depart until 10pm, I think you were on a different cruise..

While we did probably miss some announcements due to not hearing them from inside our cabin / getting the door open quickly enough to catch it; but we were in the theater at 12:30 (the appointed time for our excursion booked thru Carnival).

We were told there several times " It won't be long" " "just waiting on clearance from local officials"; then hearing the anchors drop; then more of the same announcements. We boarded the tender (somewhere around the tenth) and there was talk of the CG delaying dropping anchor.

Then again, my wife was given a $25 Wine Card. We picked up a bottle at the candy shop (Chilean Merlot, probably 7.99 in a store) to bring home and took it back to the room. Sometime later I was passing thru and heard a fellow trying to use a card and was told they didn't sell red wines there!
