Have seen a news report that Legend is to be sold and some cruises in 2017 cancelled.

Heres the Facebook message I got got. if you 'like' thier page you can see their replies to comments and what they are doing in recompense, full refunds etc:

Dear Guests and Friends,

We would like to inform you Royal Caribbean has entered into an agreement to sell Legend of the Seas in 2017.

Regrettably, the sale of Legend of the Seas will result in the cancellation of five of her Brisbane departures, while redeploying a sixth cruise to bring forward her repositioning from Brisbane to Asia. The 20 February 2017 departure will now see the ship reposition to Singapore over 11 nights, with overnights in Cairns and Darwin. This will mark Legend of the Seas’ final Australian sailing as she repositions to Europe for delivery to her new owner.

Rhapsody of the Seas, will transition from New Jersey to Europe in order to undertake a range of like European itineraries. Vision of the Seas will then transition to Cape Liberty, New Jersey, where she will undertake four like itineraries to those planned for Rhapsody of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean will assist affected guests in securing an alternative Royal Caribbean cruise or for those who would rather cancel; we will provide a full refund of any deposits paid.

For those who choose to re-book on to an alternate Royal Caribbean cruise, we will provide additional bonus onboard credits and we will be discussing hotel and flight arrangements with affected guests.

Guests who booked on cancelled Brisbane sailings, who choose to rebook on selected Sydney sailings are also eligible for a $300 pp credit towards flights.

If you are affected and have booked through a Travel Agent, unfortunately we do not have your contact details. Please contact your Travel Agent as they have important information around alternative options. If you have booked directly with us, we have emailed you with important information about your cruise.

As Legend of the Seas sale has just been announced we wanted to make everyone aware of these immediate changes.

We are truly sorry to disrupt our guests' holidays and apologise for the inconvenience caused.

When we were on Legend back in September there was a strong rumour that Legend was being sold to become a floating casino in Asia.

The question was asked at Captains Corner but a very political response was offered neither confirming nor denying the event.

Looks like the experienced cruisers knew more than the Captain.

We prefer the smaller ships but Royal and others are now just aiming at the mass market.

Sorry to see Legend go, she is a true legend and even though many have complained about her age (20 is not old in terms of a ships life) but we had our best cruise on her.

I feel sorry for people who have cruises booked on her.

However after sailing on her last November, in my opinion, this sale is way overdue. The ship was badly in need of TLC and not up to the standards we have had on other RCCL cruises.

Lizzy77 - I see you are on the Oasis Western and Eastern routes soon - we did them last year, they are great cruises!

Seems to be happening more and more often.

Sure sell the ship but sail the cruises you've already sold first.

This.

American ships redeployed because of this sale.

Last year (???) sale of Century being changed causing changes to the last cruise.

At least Princess let Ocean sail out the cruises they'd sold.

So sorry for all those effected.

Yeah I have a cruise coming up.... Oops no I don't they sold the ship.

Not really - the sell off is to a European operator (who only operates there), and the ship will be operating in the Med rather than Asia.

The captain couldn't confirm anything in advance, before the company had released the news in any case.

Possibly, unless there is a replacement in the works.

Legend was the only ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet which could get under the Gateway Bridge to dock at Portside. Any other RCI ship would have to dock at the Grain Terminal at Fisherman's Island. In other words, Royal Caribbean will now have to pull out of the Brisbane market.

Yes, but surely they can use the grain Terminal with the larger ships as does the other lines.

There aren't any regular operations there from other lines; it's just overflow or the occasional visit.

To make a ship there regularly would make that the base, which is pretty unappealing for passengers.

I realise they don't use the Grain terminal as a home port which is why they are planning on the new terminal on the north side of the river, although that is still years off.:D
