I have always traveled on Carnival in the past and have purchased the faster to fun to get on board sooner and more importantly get off the ship first. Does NCL offer anything like this or how do they handle the embarkation and debarkation?

Nothing like the FTF option.

For embarkation you will be given a check-in time but in actuality you can check in anytime. You will be given a boarding group number and will then sit sown to wait for your group number to be called. At about 11:15 those in suites and those in wheelchairs, mobility impaired, will be boarded. Then the group numbers will start being called to board.

If you check in after noon you might be boarding as soon as you check in.

For disembarkation you choose a color luggage tag to coincide with the time you want to disembark. You can do self-disembark and be among first off if you can carry your own luggage.

Those in suites will be led by concierge to a special disembarkation point to be among the first off. Platinum members may also choose to be among first.

Getting on and off the ship is a breeze with NCL.:) You can't board early unless you are in a suite or higher. You can self disembark to get off early.

Personally we like to stay on the ship as long as we can to make our vacation last longer.

NCL offers priority embarkation for Haven Suite guests, and past passengers (Latitudes members),so that's not going to work for you. You'll have a boarding time assigned on your boarding documents, however it seems no one pays much attention to their assigned check in time. So you can just show up and check in and be aboard in 45 minutes or so.;) There is early walk off disembarkation for anyone who carries their own luggage as soon as the ship has cleared the Customs. You can request the earliest disembarkation with your luggage taken off and waiting for you in the barn, at the Front Desk during the cruise, and they will most likely accomodate your request and assign you to the earliest group.;)

We are FILO people!! While we are not suite or haven we do like to get there as early as possible and get in the Latitudes Priority line. What we have paid includes the first and last days so we want to get the most for our bucks. We have a leisurely breakfast at the other end.

FILO:- First On Last Off!!

I have a question then... What time do you typically eat breakfast/get off the ship on the last day?

Just out of interest, can any level of Lattitudes members use the priority line? I'm sure I saw it last year, but got told that I wasn't allowed, I can't recall why, but yet I was Bronze. Won't be silver until the end of my upcoming cruise.

Just for clarification, priority "embarkation" is only offered to suite guests, not to Latitude members. The only thing that latitude status gets you is priority "check in", not boarding. You may get into a shorter check in line, but often the lines for regular check in are sometimes shorter. If you are not a suite guest, and you want to get on the ship sooner, arrive early for check in, probably around 9:30 and you'll be given an early boarding number. You'll be in the first group or two they call when boarding starts around 11:30.

Also, no need to request a disembark time at the front desk. You will be handed out a list of checkout times starting with self disembark, with your own luggage, beginning about 7:30 am. The other disembark times are listed and have corresponding colored tags. Choose the luggage tag which is nearest the time you want to disembark. This info will be in the Freestyle Daily the day before, and you pick up the luggage tags from a rack in the atrium near guest services.

We tend to eat breakfast starting at about 7.30 and make it very leisurely. We then slowly finish packing and carry off our "carry-on' luggage about 9.45 having taken the last colour luggage labels (9.40 last cruise).

Certainly remember doing it while Gold and now Platinum.

Bronze through Platinum all get Priority Check In, so I'm not sure why you were denied. You should see a "Latitudes" line, but again, the other lines may be shorter. As long as you have completed one cruise, you should be allowed in the Latitudes line.

Thanks, there really wasn't much of a queue when I got to the check in lines anyway last year, and I was allowed straight onto the ship too if I remember correctly.

I know this year my flight lands about 2pm in Barcelona so will be heading straight to the ship, at least I know that when I get there the cabins should be ready at the very least!

Most of my cruises have been on Carnival and past few years using FTF and that has been fabulous. I have had 2 sailings on Breakaway. My first cruise in October disembark was IMHO a nightmare. I took my mother who has health issues on 5/22 and because of my experience on last cruise and wanting to make this a special trip for her and knowing she would have a difficult time with embark/disembark I chose a spa haven suite. Best choice I could have made. Shout out again to our Butler Gian who made the process much easier. My friends who were in a mini suite and balcony rooms had a much different experience. For the record, I like both lines.

And to clarify, Priority Disembarkation means that you get a yellow colored luggage tag which is set up in the baggage hall first (after Suites). This is not the same as a Suites guest who gets escorted to the front of the security line.

That being said, even for the Suites guests, once you get past ship's security and swipe off the ship for the last time, you join the masses creeping and crawling down the gangway, through the terminal, into the baggage hall, and through customs. No priority treatment once you pass the "front door" of the ship.

I'm sure I have read of suite guests who were escorted all the way to a customs agent bypassing all lines, so I think it can be more than an escort to the front door of the ship. But maybe rare, and depending upon the Concierge, and maybe whether or not you booked the Garden Villa.:). And if you paid that kind of money, you deserve an escort all the way to the door of your limo.

For the Gold/Platinum Priority Disembark, you are right, they just get the first call after Suite Guests leave. But, Platinums also get Concierge Services, and I am wondering if they can contact the Concierge to be escorted off the ship, just like they can contact the Concierge to make dinner ressies, etc. Any Platinums ever do this?

I'm not going to repeat what everyone has already told you. Just wanted to chime in that I'm platinum on Carnival and have now sailed twice on NCL (with two more booked! :D) and I find disembarkation much smoother on NCL sailings. I love being able to choose the time I want to get off instead of having it assigned to me. I didn't encounter a line to get off the ship on either of my NCL cruises.

Hi. What if you have a late flight? Can you stay on the ship all day until your transport arrives? We've booked a fly cruise with transfers included, but our flight doesn't leave until 9:30pm.

No. They start boarding for the next cruise around 11:00 or so and all the current passengers need to be off the ship so the crew can get the ship ready. The latest you'll be able to stay on the ship is 9:30 or so.

Many people take a tour when they get off the ship when they have a late flight. Many tour companies will take care of your luggage and then drop you off the airport.

Don't you have documentation that tells where your transfer will pick you up and at what time? I would think you'd want to know that before you make plans for what to do until your transfer picks you up...

In all my cruises that I've sailed in a suite, I've never been escorted to the front of the line for customs. Like you said, it's just to the gangway....which does save time - and that includes my cruise in the GV!

The paperwork says 12pm, but it says from the port and is approximate. I assumed it was like in a hotel, where you give up your room, but can stay in the hotel until you're picked up. That's always been the way with Thomson cruises. Thanks for your help. Will probably go with a tour, as really don't want to go to the airport that early

They do it just like Carnival does, with one small exception. That is with NCL you get to select your disembarkation time whereas on Carnival they choose it for you.
