Oasis Departure

I pulled this from another thread.:)

Go to the John Lloyd State Park, which is on the south side of the port inlet. There is an admission though, and the area from where you see the ships up close as they depart is over 2 miles from the gate. Anywhere along the beach gives you a view of the ships in the distance, so you would have to decide how up close and personal you want to be when the ships sail by.

I am sure others will chime in.

Just recently, John U Lloyd State Park was renamed to Von D. Mizell and Eula Johnson State Park.

Thank you, this is great. Now we can plan accordingly.

Sail Away is scheduled for 04:30. How early should we plan on getting there?

The first ship out of Port Everglades usually sails at 4 pm so I would be there then to watch the parade (a relatively short parade with few ships in the summer; a much longer parade with up to 7 or 8 ships on a winter's Saturday or Sunday).

If you want to see how many ships are departing (and in what order), check out https://pevvesseltraffic.broward.org/webx/. The information is listed for one week in advance of arrival/departure date.

Speaking to the former John L Park

when are you planning to go?

the park closes at sunset and they chase people out well b4 .....

you need to be aware of time of sunset on the day in question . . . .

[so other folks here have said]

We are cruising in the third week of August. You are correct, the park's website does state that they close at sunset.
