1st time stay in San Juan

Recommended Posts

We are cruising from San Juan next March for the first time. We will arrive 1 day prior to sailing. Don't necessarily want to stay in old San Juan but out side possibly.

Thinking of Condado. But want a hotel that you can absolutely walk to restaurants and night life. Don't want to spend a fortune but want something nice. Aside from hotel recommendations please give us a dinner and breakfast suggestion. Also, any fun places for nightlife in Condado near a hotel suggestion.

Also in research I think that a cab ride from airport to Condado would be about $70.00 US. Is this about correct? Also, if staying in Condado where will the Adventure depart from? The pier in Old San Juan or elsewhere? If elsewhere, where, how long and cost to get to it.

Thanks for your help

If just the Condado area, then consider a sea view room at:

Dining, it has to be Marmalade, and take the six course wine pairing menu.

Afternoon to early evening cocktails, with a great vibe, at "The Mezzanine"

Enjoy your stay :)

We stayed at Marriott Stellaris, small restaurants on the streets right by it for dinner and we had hotels huge buffet for breakfast. No complaints at all on this hotel and surroundings. CVS on the corner too for buying last minute items. :)

Condado is a great place to stay. The cab ride is at least half the cost you stated.

I have stayed at Marriott and Hilton in the area. Both are great and have plenty of local places to eat for all meals. SO many great places to walk to and all have unique charm to them.

Marriott puts you closer to casino if you need. Both have nice pools and beach access.

You can stay at DoubleTree to save money usually and they will shuttle you to the beach.

I'm not sure that a hotel in Condado and inexpensive can be used in the same sentence. For our cruise in February out of San Juan I searched Marriott properties on Condado and the Renaissance La Concha was $300 per night and the Stellaris was even more expensive. We finally settled on the Renaissance using Marriott points. There are a ton of restaurants on Ashford Ave (the main drag in Condado). TripAdvisor recommends Pinkys for breakfast and Café Angel and Casa Cortees ChocoBar (Old San Juan) for other meals. You can also check the San Juan port of call forum for other opinions.

Here is a web site listing cab fares to/from the various zones in San Juan. Condado is in Zone 3 so it should be a $15 fare from SJU. I think the last time we took a cab from SJU to Condado we paid $20 plus $1 per suitcase.
