I hope I'm doing this right. Not quite sure how to respond or ask questions. Can you buy cheers package for certain days? Or do you buy the whole. Trip? Where can you look for drink packages at? Or do they offer others??

Carnival Paridise 9-2016 thanks in advance?

You must purchase the package for the length of the cruise - not available on a per day basis. The package can't be sold until the second day on cruises out of Texas, New York, and Alabama.

Bottomless Bubbles is the package without alcohol. Check the Carnival page under FAQ - drink packages. Here's a link:

You're welcome! :)

And if Cheers is 1/8 of your fare on your upcoming Miracle cruise, then you paid between $2400 and $3200 pp for your aft wrap suite?????

Original price was $3,200 with prepaid gratuities. I later was given 15 percent off due to problems on a previous cruise.

  • 2 weeks later...

We got it on our last cruise and loved the freedom. We had an 8 page bar tab at the end so I feel sure we at least broke even [emoji23]. We debated it this time and just really enjoy the freedom to try new things and have no huge bill at the end.

I do have a question for those who've cruised on the Magic. I see there is no Shake Spot. Can you get milkshakes anywhere? We were on the Dream last time and I don't remember seeing them anywhere (also didn't go to the specialty coffee place though).

I know! I don't get it  Maybe it's the teacher in me but I don't understand why people get stuck on the number over the cost. Usually it's all about the $! :p

I would agree with you that $ should be the bottom line when deciding to purchase Cheers or not. However if you read many of the Cheers threads, there are a good many posters who basically concede they will not get their monies worth, but are getting it for "peace of mind", "I don't want to stress about wasting a drink", and "I like having everything paid upfront so I will get Cheers"

For those posters, the $ factor seems to be secondary

We drink a lot so it is worth is to us. Last cruise we reached the limit once. Just a tip...If you have reached 14 drinks and plan on continuing to drink, then start purchasing them before you order that 15th drink. They will cut you off for the night.

still trying to figure out if the cheers program is worth it....I like not having to think about the price of each drink and not have a huge bill at the end of the cruise.

Husband is a beer drinker and I drink mostly water but I do enjoy the fruity drinks and like to try specialty drinks and of course wine with dinner.

My question is can my husband go to the bar and get drinks for both of us with the cheers program or do I have to be with him? I heard you are only allowed one drink at a time.

so torn if we would break even.

I have B2B cruises on the Miracle coming up - a six day followed by a seven day. I'm not a big drinker, never really acquired a taste for alcohol, but I do like the frozen drinks and the occasional CC and ginger ale. But, with the addition of the milkshakes and specialty coffees, I am considering purchasing Cheers for the first cruise. Might even be tempted to try wine at dinner or a mimosa in the morning. :)

Once I'm on the first cruise, I figure I'll be able to tell if it's worth it to add it to the second cruise. Has anyone done a B2B where they had Cheers the first cruise and added it to the second while on the first cruise? I know cutoff to add it at the lesser price is the day before embarkation, so I'd request it by day four of my first cruise, just wondering if anyone has done this.

I never hit the limit, got really close though most nights, but I also had my fiance order me drinks through the day when she wasn't getting one at the time, as she only drank max 8 a day. Like if we were heading back to the room, we'd' stop by the bar and get two miller or coors light (as they don't take the cap) and I would have one for later. Or if we were getting waited on at any show, comedy, lido deck she would order some foofoo drink we both liked, she would drink maybe half and I would finish it :D

For the most part, yes he can go get drinks for both of you, especially if you have stopped by that bar before together a few times as they are the same bartenders. It could differ ship to ship though with how strict they are on the ordering without being there.

We are still trying to decide if this is worth it for us or not. A group of 5, 3 of whom are BIG drinkers and 2 are lightweights. That being said 3 we know the 15 limit is going to be our biggest hurdle. Whereas the other 2 know it is too much for them. Surprisingly it is the lighter drinkers pushing for the purchase because for the Redbull and juice that is included. My reluctance comes from the line in the rules “drinks included during regular hours” are there more hoops I need to jump through to use the service than not?

There are no hoops to jump through, you just give the person your card and they give you drink with a receipt of 0$. That line is odd, it might just mean don't expect a drink at 3am when all the bars are closed.

I always look at my itinerary. If I have a lot of PORT DAYS I normally don't take the Drink package. The way I see it, On port days I'm off the ship half the day so more likely NOT going to hit my per/day quota to break even.

If it has more DAYS at SEA is when I would more likely have more drinks.

I have an old EXCEL spreadsheet that breaks down the over cost depending on the # of days the trip is. All you needed to do was update the #of days the trip was and it auto adjusted. It breaks down QTY of each drink needed to break even or better. Unfortunately its a couple years old and price changes and package costs need to be updated. I'm going to try and get a hold of a current DRINK price list to get it updated. It was a good tool to help determine if the package was better than individual purchases.

You just sealed the deal for me. Thank you. :D

  • 4 months later...

For us, I could never imagine spending $800 for 2 us to drink for 7 days, especially when we have 4 ports (which usually means we are paying for additional drink in port).

That easily pays the fare for one of us (balcony) on the next cruise and it would absolutely encourage more drinking than we would typically indulge in.

We pay for our vacations with cash and there is just no way we would spend that much on drinking. We will pass on that one!

We would never come close to having enough drinks to justify the cost of the Cheers program. We just can't drink like we did in our younger years! However, I am very glad that Carnival allows you to buy bottled liquor for your room and carry on soda in cans. On our next cruise we have pre-purchased a bottle of Rum for about $90 and also beer. We plan to bring a 12 pack of soda each plus we each will bring on a bottled wine. I bring my own Calorie free powered drink mix to make Rum Punch. I love having the freedom to have drinks in the room and out on my balcony without having to run to the bar to get one. I'm sure we'll purchase drinks here and there when we don't want to go back to the cabin and make our own. But that will be just a few.:)

We went our first cruise in July where we purchased the Cheers package and will do so going forward for all cruises. Here is what I discovered about our value.

- First day on the ship we were on our own for drinks because Texas has silly Blue Laws. First round for me and my other half was $25.00 (I had a bloody Mary and he a double Jack and Water). From this point we knew our Cheers package was money well spent. I spent the rest of the day analyzing prices of what I ordered and was shocked at my bill by the end of the night.

- Discovered quickly that throwing an extra $.50 to $1.00 on each drink for tip cost me little in comparison to the service we received from my regular bartender or waiter. The waiter in the main theater sought us out every single night. We never had to reorder, he just knew and handled it.

- Comparing what I drink on a normal week to what I drink on a cruise is not a fair comparison. During the week I have work the next morning, a car to drive home from the restaurant or bar and other responsibilities (used the be the kids but they can drink me under the table now). On the cruise I can have an adult beverage all day, no concerns.

- I drank less in port because I knew it was free on the boat!

Have a bloody mary with your omelet (even on port days), grab an energy drink or water on the way to the gangway, get back on board with a cocktail to watch the pier runners, stop by the alchemy bar for something special, make a deposit to the casino while having a mixed drink and enjoy the newlywed game with friends and few beers while rushing to the comedian at the end of the night.

All in all there is value in enjoying and not analyzing every transaction, for me at least. At least my bill at the end of the cruise wasn't the same as my cruise fare.

My husband and I have discussed this option before every cruise. We have never purchased Cheers. The following are our reasonings:

We have 4 shore days on our next cruise. There no way we can break even on these days.

On more than one cruise, I have over imbibed and spent a great part of the next day in bed and in the cabin recuperating and not wanting anything to eat much less anything to drink.

Also, you are paying for drinks you have not yet consumed. Anything could happen. Sea sickness, other illnesses, and the a fore mentioned hang over.

The pay as you go works for us. The above are things you should consider before you purchase the Cheers package.

Enjoy your cruise!
